False Prices by Bailey/Sherrill saves the day

So I am new here and on a rant concerning Bailey's false advertisement of a Buckingham Ergovation Saddle listed for $449.95 on 7 different discount websites that link to Bailey's. Called in on Saturday and was assured that I would get the saddle at that price and called Monday, only to be told that if Sherill's would honor the price of $460.00 and the way this phone call ended was by the rep saying "go to Sherrill's then!" Wow! Talk about making someone feel their business is unwanted! Needless to say, the wife that I am, I sent in a complaint letter and talked with another rep to be offered a discount on my next purchase; however, after all that...I think I will stay away from Bailey's.

On the bright side, ordered the Ergovation for my hubby today for Valentine's. Thanks, Toby! To bad, the only thing he'll have is a picture in a card and the anxiety of the UPS delivery but Thank God there are still companies who honor and stand by their word.

Repost to the post....reported Bailey's a** to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission)....Don't mess with the wife of an arborist and interfer with my hubby's holiday gifts....

I'm thinking the photo will do very nicely and now you have the anticipation factor which is kinda cool too.

I have to say Baileys has treated me well for saw chain and bars and parts and stuff but I don't even shop them for climbing gear.

Yes, he is certainly happy and counting the arrival of this order. It should be here tomorrow or Wednesday! YAY! Since you are here in NC with us, any advice on shopping locally to someone like me (a wife)who really does not know much other than what's listed on a "wish list" would be greatly appreciated. It seems I may have to go with Bailey's for the set of green teeth for the grinder --- another item on the list....

I've had my good days and bad days with all of them. When it comes to problems interacting with their reps sometimes it is my attitude, well OK, most often it is my attitude that is the problem.

But sometimes too you catch their rep having a bad moment and you end up the target.

Is that an excuse? No, but we are all human.

If something like that happened the first time I called would I call back? Hell no.

I'd encourage you to hold off throwing the towel in with Baileys, or any of the providers for that matter, until you have worked with them a couple of times.

Agreed, Baileys is a fine place to shop. Visit them on some chain saw stuff so they can make it up.

Glad we got your order right ArbWife but Lord knows we make mistakes, just erased one a minute ago.

peace.

Welcome Arboristwife. Don't get too discouraged by your experience. We all have bad days, and we don't know what the other person might be going through. I probably would have gone the the head of Baileys rather than the FTC, but that was your call. There are a number of different places you can get goodies for your hubby. Most are advertised here on the sidebars, so give them a try. BTW, I love your avatar. Looks like something from Agape Designs.

I appreciate everyone's advice here. I have ordered from a few places a handful of times and as I stated I am new to all of this. The husband normally does his own shopping, but I am trying to show support for his career and the industry.

Tobe, first and foremost, I apologize for the misspelling of your name. I have never seen it--only heard in spoken language by the boys. My apologies!!! Indeed, the saddle arrived today and unfortunately, my husband had to return it for a manufacture defect. Something about the D and webbing on the right side of belt not being sown together, but on the bright side the new one should arrive tomorrow!

-------------------As for Bailey's------------------------
As for mistakes in customer services, I work in public administration and can understand a bad attitude, but to be bluntly rude to a new customer over an internal mistake and to make the customer feel horrible about asking and wanting an answer as to why they would list prices and not honor them is an unexcusable error. The representative could have easily said hey ya know you caught an error and we can't go that low but I've give you 5 bucks off for the time you have spent on the phone with us and I would have been fine with that. It was not my fault; however, the item was listed, as stated on 7 different websites, for that price. The representative, much annoyed that they could not track the price ever being listed that low within their system, took her frustration out on me in a manner than was not favorable for conducting business.

The FTC complaint is not concerning customer service. The complaint focused on advertising for a price that the company is unwilling to honor. Whether it was a miscommunication or an error on part on the websites (I find that hard to believe since 7 website displayed the price), it is not fair to be told by a representative that you will recieve the item at that price then later be told that the price is not an option. I did place a formal complaint with Bailey's as well.

In my line of work, mistakes happen as well and so do points of awareness....something we can all learn from. If I can shed light on improper practices then I will just as I expect to be held in same measures and accountability. My husband seems to favor Bailey's and does not want my to disregard them either and as his supporter, I will follow his wishes.

Thanks all!

In retail the price posted to the public is the price they pay until it is rectified. There are many such cases of incorrect prices posted online that a company had to honor up to the point it is rectified and advertised as an error.

While I might have just escalated it internally first I can see you're point of view. Sure we all have a bad day but leave it at home.

You may want to check out Treemansupply in Morenci Mi. for the greenteeth. They manufacture and sell them right there. Good folks and I think they will take good care of you.

Not saying how they treated you was right at all, but i just spent a heap of time trying to track down a pair of boots online. I went through about 50 pages of google results and every time i thought i found them it was one of these sites that link to the actual seller. I knew that one seller was sold out 100's of page views ago. The prices shown on these shopping sites varied, and were probably all advertised on the original site at one point in time.

So for example, Baileys could have had it on sale for 7 days at $449.95 six month ago, the shopping sites web crawlers find it and list it. The sale ends but those results keep showing up.

I don't know exactly how those shopping sites work, but i don't think the actual selling site has anything to do with it.

So i can see how a conversation could go like "hey, i just saw you've got the Ergo advertised online for $449.95" and a sales person might think "oh yeah well if thats what it says on the website then that's right" Only to find out later that it has not been reduced.

I could be way off, but going from waste of 10 hrs of my life chasing a pair of boots that don't exist but 100's of websites list them as available & on sale.

I have no intention of giving my business to anyone else in the future. Treestuff is the only place I have been 100% happy with every time, had too many problems with "other retailers".

Luke and his guys just know how to take care of their customers.
