A New Kensington man was killed by a falling tree Monday while chopping firewood on his family's property in the Braeburn section of Lower Burrell.
Thomas Anthony Bruno, 36, of the 400 block of Charles Avenue, was cutting down a tree along an access road off Braeburn Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. when another tree broke off halfway up and fell on him, crushing his head and neck, according to Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Gerald Fritz.
Emergency responders provided CPR, but could not resuscitate Bruno, who never regained consciousness, Fritz said. He was pronounced dead of blunt-force trauma to the head and neck at the scene about 90 minutes later.
