LONACONING — A Lonaconing man died Wednesday after he was struck by a tree that he was cutting down, according to the Allegany County Bureau of Police.
Gary Lee Durst, 61, of Pershing Street succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Memorial Hospital by Georges Creek Ambulance.
Police said Durst had offered to remove the tree to assist a neighbor and was working alone and using a chain saw when the tree fell on top of him.
A passerby discovered the accident and 911 was then called. First-responders assisted at the scene before taking Durst to the hospital.
Tri-Towns Ambulance and Good Will Volunteer Fire Company also responded following alert at 12:47 p.m., according to the Allegany County 911 Joint Communications Division.
