Fall Canker worms?

Defoliated red twig dogwoods over the weekend.

Macremphytus tarsatus, sawfly

the white coloration is thought to mimic bird poop

are they specific to dogwood or will they move to oaks hosta etc. if available
Never mind I got the answer to that.
