Fall arrest harness for dummies.

Merle Nelson

Been here much more than a while
Location
SF Bay Area, CA
My neighbor bought two harnesses for me at garage sales sure that I could use them for something. Well meaning but WRONG.

Free for cost of shipping to people that could use them on a rescue dummy. One shows a lot of dirt and is marked XXL or something (if it matters). One looks pretty new and the XXL is penned out so maybe it is a little small or something.

Just to clarify I absolutely would not recommend them as life support. I don't have any idea of their history.

I will on occasion wander through some of the local pawn shops and I always shudder when I come across the "safety belts".

I've had a customer offer me fall arrest harnesses and an old 3 strand rope left over from the previous company that she hired who did not complete the job, and asked for a price break if she gave them to me. I politely declined and let her know that I can accept CC or checks if she didn't have the cash.

I also explained to her about those harnesses being life support and me not knowing how it had been treated. She understood later as she watched us riding the crane up into her 80' pecan tree

I had something similar, an old retired climber we worked for recently wanted to sell me a set of “hooks”. He’s keeping his chicken strap though in case he ever decided to climb again. Now mind you, he retired after the last time he fell, apparently he broke/hurt his back one time too many so now he can’t climb anymore. I politely declined his hooks. I told him the three sets I have already are plenty.

We got called out on a cat rescue. Apparently the neighbor died trying the day before, he was a retired lineman, and slapped on his old dusty gear. His flipline or whatever they call it broke and he fell to his death.

Aren’t those rescue dummies heavy? I’d imagine I wouldn’t want one to fall on my head
