Elliott cranes

deevo

Been here a while
Ok so as some may or may not
Know I've been on the hunt for a crane for a while don't really want to go over 30 tons due to my license etc to run it. I've got a part time retired
Operator lined up when and if I do get one while I gain more operating time. I don't have a lot of experience with Elliott cranes. Classictruckman where are ya!!! Price is right for me on this one as well. I'm looking at this and another national 30 ton rear mount swing cab right now. http://www.magnamtruck.com/default....t&fr=xpreownedinventory&fr=xpreownedinventory
I've asked this before on the buzz but anyone have any good / bad dealings with these guys ?

As of January this year there is no more derating cranes to allow an under qualified operator to run a heavier machine. So in other words get a 339a licence and buy whatever you want. If not you're going to have to stick to 15 ton or less with a 339c or 8 ton or less with a certificate.

Yes I'm aware of that, I was enquiring about Elliott cranes ie. Reliability, maintenance etc....
As well as buying from Magnam in Ohio

Go with enclosed cab. When it's raining or winter you or your operator will like that better. Dust etc. haven't done my hw but Elliot and national both seem nice to me. I'm slowly working on setting up some classes with nccco, don't limit your self with a lesser license get the max!

Yes the one national I'm looking at has one. I don't want my guy or me getting grumpy sitting in the rain or snow !!!hey maybe we can do another course together ! I'm planning on doing the cranes 101 course that'll let me run up to a 75 ton. It's recognized in Canada

Where and when is the course. Sign me up! I am not ready for a crane. Between buying in international the hurricane and the excavator I wanna make some money back. I want to get my credentials to the "T" first so

Elliott boom trucks:

The good:
-They're cheap
-They have a good chart

The bad!:
-They're cheap
-The dealer support really really sucks in Ontario
-They use a single stage pump- this really sucks for operating unless you're only a one lever kinda operator
-they are riddled with electrical problems after about 2 years on our salty roads
-they have a wide outrigger spread(this gives them a better chart) making setups in tight areas more difficult

Honestly i'd say save you're money and buy a nice manitex. Nationals are good too but I think they're a little conservative with their charts.

Thanks for that.... Exactly what I wanted to hear and not hear !!!! Soon as I have time I'm going down to Ohio to look at a few potential cranes

Get it sonn, Royce says no crane no gain!

Thats right!! No crane no gain. You both need one like yesterday:)

I took the cranes 101 course and hight recommend it. Very well put together. Two days on in class lectures and they pretty much cover everything you need to pass the test that is done on the third day.
Get your practice in with a Terx 4792 though. You have to do a practical and that is the crane you use. That was the toughest part for me. The contrails are opposite my national and it threw me off a bit and made my time longer. But I didn't knock anything over.

I was following the same truck on Ritchie Bros at a sale in Wyoming. Sold for $56,000 US which was a great buy. Has remotes which may work well for your setup? Knowing what they paid for it gives you some leverage.
