That would be a good one. We often plant them with climbing roses on landscaping projects. They play nice with other plantings, great color varieties, and do very well here. I've always thought a Sweet Autumn would look good with a honeysuckle. They're also both on a par with each other as far as their aggressive growth rates. This would be a good time to test the idea. Awwww, you guys and your flowers Kidding...big fan of Clematis too, though I've always thought it reads/sounds like a female body part. So there's that...
It's true, vines will keep a rotting tree from falling anywhere other than a confined area close to the trunk; as a rule anyway. It's sort of like the vine acts as a vertical speedline, keeping everything that finds it way to the ground still tethered to the stem. And many times, when something does break off the tree, it just hangs there from the vine.
Clematis....giggity.

One question I have with regard to the linked article of Tom's original post: If the asian species of Ash tree have already proven themselves to be resistant to the emerald ash borer, why do they not just try that species here in the states

I guess I just wonder what could be wrong with introducing a strong, desirable tree into the USA.



Anyway, I'd just like to hear the thoughts of a few pro arbs (which I am not) on the idea of planting the Manchurian ash here in the states, maybe even just for a limited test run.

From what I have heard it is not a very attractive tree in appearance relative to native Ash. Actually quite the opposite.

I thought this seemed a little more like old news than new news and as I mentioned in the first (epic) EAB thread from our friend in Detroit...their ash are discouraged from toxins in the phloem. Big mystery is getting our ash to begin producing them quickly (evolve like them without evolving in their time). So I sent Dr. Dan Herms the link and this is his response...
