Dueling chainsaws

I've had three 192T's. Gutless until I open up the muffler, which is an easy task. I like the light weight and low price. I've bought all three used. One was stolen, the second is now no longer a consistent runner, which is to be expected, as they're not pro saws, so only rated at 100 hours vs 400 for the 200/201 saws. I'd get a 150 or 2511 and have either woods ported, but I'm 71 and wanting to work less. Retiring totally seems unlikely as clients keep calling, and other arb buds want my help.. they do kinda like that I know my stuff, after 46 years in da trees!!
Want to sell your 192's? I'm still rockin one. It's been ported and I like the little guy. The Mickey mouse recoil on the TC is their biggest downfall. I could use a spare and they are harder to come by. Shoot me a message if interested.

I was at my dealer today and saw they had an Archer chain. This was the narrow kerf semi chisel being sub'd for a Stihl which is on back order. Thought it was interesting.

I ordered one from arbsession not nearly as good as a Stihl chain imo, but they're cheaper I might buy a couple just for brush clearing jobs where we're likely to hit dirt or rocks anyways.

My first chainsaw was the 194. It did just fine until I ran someones old 201. When it wasn't randomly dying, the 201 would chug, and I wanted that. So I got the Echo 355, which I really like. The price vs performance factor is great. Weight wise, the 194 and 355 don't seem to be that different (the 355 being the heavier one, obviously). I've been wanting to put them both on the scale. And the echo is definitely quirky having run mostly stihl, but that is true with any saw you're unfamiliar with. I'm 50/50 on which one I am running day to day. They do the same thing, one is a little quicker.......thats about it.

I strongly debate my super tiny saw being the Makita battery powered or the 2511.

Stoke is high for trying out the recommended chains for the 194!

Go battery, I haven't used the Makita but the stihl 161t is great for a tiny pruning saw, between my recent-ish purchase of my husqvarna 540ixp and 261 I don't think my 201is likely to see much use. The husqvarna is the more capable saw pretty similar to a 193T, the stihl is less so, still cuts really fast on smaller stuff just not bigger 10+" wood. I do like the stihl better for pruning and brush clearing and as a chipper saw.

I have both. I love the 2511, but as a pruning saw. I would never attempt a takedown with it. I have done takedowns with a 193, 16" .050" bar, and 63PS3 full chisel chain.

As for the 194, here's an option for you if your saw cam with the .043 gauge narrow kerf bar and 61PMM3 semi chain. Use the 61PMM3 for pruning, and get a loop of some Archer .043 gauge FULL CHISEL non-safety for aggressive cutting. I have been running a loop of the Archer for a while on my 193 and the cut times are half of the 61PMM3 semi. Both run on the same narrow kerf bar.
I put the 14" 3/8 .043 bar from my 192t on my 201tc i just got going to run it in some wood before the 14" 3/8 .050 bar showed up and was very pleased with the performance. I put the .050 bar on it today with a new chain and was less than impressed. I am switching back to .043 on the 201tc and am going to try a loop of the archer. The 14" .050 is going on the 200t replacing the 16" .050. Thanks for posting about the Archer full chisel non safety chain in 3/8 .043. I am looking forward to it.

The Archer"s been on the 193T full time for quite a while now and I think that's what will stay on the saw. My 193 is a backup for both the 2511 and 201T, so it's got to be able to swing either way. But, I keep the 193 on the truck full time so it sees all kinds of stuff; poison ivy, fallen limbs, some roots, light brush clearing, etc.

I run the the stock chain, 16" bar full chisel square filled on my 201 no complaints, I would be curious to see how it would do with the speedcut nano chain on there though especially if they come out with an 18" bar for it.

Which chain? I run the 16" Stihl PS3 ( full chisel) on my 201tc and have been pleased. But if you ran the PM3 semi, I feel your pain.
I got the archer below. My goal was to run a chain with a narrower kerf for my 201tc. In my opinion, it cut similar to the Stihl PS3. The cutters are about he same size even though the drive links on the archer are .043 and the Stihl is .050. Anyway, I will keep searching for a 3/8 .043 non safety full chisel, or maybe semi, that has a narrower cutter. I ran the Stihl PMM3 which is 3/8 .043 semi chisel safety chain and sharp it cut very fast on the 201tc.

I got an archer for my msa161t pretty garbage chain imo, if I was looking for a skinny chain to put on my 201 I'd do the oregon speed cut nano. I just got a set for my 640ixp and imo they're significantly better than it's husky counterpart after 3 days of use I'm really impressed. Arbsession has the oregon bars and sprocket for the 201 and the chains. If I hadn't already got a light bar on my 201tc I'd probably have already ordered the speedcut setup for it.

In timed cuts, the archer cuts in half the time of the PMM3 on my 193. That said, I don't thinks it's the ticket for narrow cuts on a 201, but it's definitely the ticket for getting faster cuts out of a 193/194 running the stock bar.
got an archer for my msa161t pretty garbage chain imo,
Care to explain this comment? What data have you gathered to assess this? I've had zero issues with the stuff, and it's on par with Oregon.

The one I got loses it's edge really quickly compared to my stihl chains, I won't buy more unless I think I'm going to be doing work where the chains will likely be damaged quickly (like brush clearing) since they're cheaper.

Agree it loses its edge faster than Stihl. Stihl is superior to average chain no doubt.

I would like to see the Archer compared in a legit test to Oregon though, because in my experience it holds it edge at least as well as Oregon, maybe even better. But I commented because the original intent of the thread with a discussion of 2511 vs 194. The Archer was suggested as a full chisel option to run on the narrow kerf 194 bar to get faster cutting performance. In that respect, not only is superior, but it's literally the ONLY full chisel option for an .043 bar.

I run the echo 2511t at one place I work. They are ported and came with 3/8 .050 on a 12" bar. These saws are ripping but they simply do not have the torque in my opinion to pull the .050 through the cut. They often stop. I would run a narrow cut option if they were mine. They are jumpy as hell with the .050 until you get them into the cut and then they stop...lol...I think a narrow kerf option would be more appropriate as well as on the Stihl Ms 192t. I cannot say for certain about the 193/4 because i haven't run them much. I think with the right set up all of these saws are good saws. The 2511t is definitely the lightest and from videos I have seen, with a narrow kerf chain, they can at least cut some 12 to 14" soft wood. With a sharp PMM3 on my 192t, I can bury all 14" of bar into dead white ash when chunking down a spar. If I am only making a couple cuts like this the lighter 192t is worth it but if i am chunking a lot of wood I will use a 200t or 201t.
