I Have 2 Mitts & Merrill chippers. Love them. I also have a old Fitchburg. Love the old stuff. Very reliable.

Does anyone have any leads on where to get carburetors for the Mitts? I'm rebuilding one and I need a carb and the linkage to go to the gov. Thxs.

Carb should have an id tag on one of the bolts.

Love my drum chippers. They are dependable and worth every penny. Mine will chip a log and if it can't finish it it will spit the end out and you just throw the rest through. I wish someone would start manufacturing them again.

Looks like a hungry bugger.
A significant limitation is trying to fill the box without being able to turn the chute. It means twisting the rig periodically, or disconnecting and shimmying the tongue side to side periodically.
The side discharge can help, if chipping onsite. I'd build a deflector for the end of the side discharge.
My chipper has a telescoping (in/ out), round discharge chute(twistable), and adjustable chute angle. A seldom seen design. This gives me adjustability of feed angle and discharge angle, both. Helps a lot to maximize chip density, and broadcasting/ piling locations for discharge.
I saw a picture of a guy I know that has a 9" vermeer, he was able to spray 45 degrees or so forward from the feed tray. I could use that option, time to time, to save screwing around.
Depending on your market, chute adjustability is a consideration, in my mind.
