"DRT" systems

Not the RR... I don't have one of those. Rope wrench works, with 10mm OP but there's more drag than I like, on ascent. It was originally about 68' long (until I started making things out of it) and I would use it for an emergency descent rope with a RW/HC setup on it. I got out of the practice, once I got used to the new gear I was playing with.

Thanks for that info.
Mechanicals seem to work best on it, like the I'D. We also have the MPD's but those are not user friendly in trees.
Realistically, at the moment the wrench is the only SRT mulitcender device that might be able to get the ok for fire service tree rescue use. That being (if I understand correctly) that if the wrench fails, the hitch still holds.
The ZZ may have a shot for fire service tree rescue in DdRT given the Petzl brand is recognized for other items used for technical rescue.

I ran a rope runner on sterling 13mm static for a short while. It was my preferred rope to use with the runner. I ultimately went back to my rope wrench though. Just preference. Worked just fine on 13mm static and 12.7mm vortex though

Thanks, good information. It's interesting to see some usage with these devices on 13mm static.

have you tested a RopeRunner or Rope Wrench on the fat NFPA kernmantle?

No, I also used it with a Petzl I'D and that worked fine. I may have tried it with the Rope Wrench, but I don't remember doing it. I will try it with both the RW and Akimbo tomorrow. I think it will be too much drag for both of them, though, on ascent. The 1/2" KM-III was too tight for my liking, and the red one is just as big, maybe even slightly bigger. Neither rope really has enough climbing time on them to work harden or thin out a bit.

Don't have a RR, though. I'll send this 30' or 40' hank to anyone who wants to mess with it, but you'll have to wait until I replenish my bank account in a few days... it'll probably be about $15 or so to ship, and I've been buying shiny stuff, again. I think I was exposed to radioactive Obtainium in the drinking water, or something. Now I've got Shiny Object Aquisition Disorder.

Yes the I'D works well with the 1/2 NFPA rope we use at the Fire Dept. Its great for up and down movement but tricky (for me) to limb walk and any movements operating "one-handed".
The 1/2 KM-III shows it is a 12mm line, whereas the NFPA rope we use is 12.5 or even a full 13 for some I believe. And the 1/2 KM-III is a NFPA General Use line, if it functioned well with stuff like the zigzag, rope wrench and hitchclimber that would be the easiest sell to a Department for a tree rescue specific rope. Our current ropes are used for everything we do, so when we train for tree rescue using prusiks they work even less than optimal with the not so clean rope. We do have dynamic ropes for tower rescue that stay nice and clean since they are not used for other purposes.
I would like to propose to the Department a couple of tree specific ropes but they will have to be NFPA rated. I'm sure something like Poison Ivy or Tachyon would not get approved.
Another angle is trying for a NFPA "Technical-Use" rope. It's highly unlikely we would be doing a pick-off, setting up a separate system for the patient is most likely. So, what NFPA "T" rope to recommend? Preferably one that is at least 11.5mm so it will work with the large I'D as well. That eliminates most since the majority are 11mm. The Teufelberger Platinum 11.5 looks good but its not NFPA.
Sterling has a SuperStatic 11.5 and I seen a Bluewater 11.5, both NFPA "T". Either of those would probably work well with the I'D, but I'm not sure how they "feel" and if hitches would work well on them also.
I've gotten the Shiny Object Acquisition Disorder as well. Got the Adjustable BDB in December. Just ordered the ZigZag from Treestuff, couldn't pass up on the Petzl sale going on. Been trying to find a used wrench out here on Treebay, but no-one seems to want to part with one. Also itching for a RopeRunner, hoping they will drop in price when the RR2 hits.

I bought my first one when Bartlett had 20% off Petzl stuff. The rest of them I bought used version 2 ones for pretty cheap and sent them all back to Petzl. They replaced them all with version 3 ones. The v2 ones all had hairline fractures, but no cracks. Petzl even paid the shipping both ways. That's like a sore dick... you just can't beat it.
Other than Rope Wrenches, I don't have any other mechanical devices for SRT except the Akimbo. I had a HH (the original model) for a brief time, but a friend liked it better than I did, so I sold it to him. It was hard to resist buying a RR or BDB. But I think the GoFundMe Akimbo, for me anyway, was worth waiting for. I know I won't be able to resist buying a RE version when they're released. It's a sickness.

I feel like a little kid just days before the best Christmas EVER! Waiting for the shine on the RE version to sparkle.

Yeah, I use more than one climb line, a lot... cuz I'm old and slow, and the extra time I take messing with a second line is about like a turtle going around a couple of trees a few times during a race. He ain't gonna win the race, anyway, so who cares? Also, I like to keep just enough gear in the two trucks to climb if I need to. You know, in case little Timmy falls down the well over at the old Miller place, and Lassie ain't there to save his dumb ass. Or one of these pig farmers falls down into his grain silo and breaks his frickin' leg (don't ask)... so now I have more of the damn things than seems necessary. It's all good. Like I've said before, the wife can have a hell of a garage sale when I croak.
