"WARNING IMPORTANT! ACCIDENT WITH ZIGZAG!!
Today 15:22 am by HOLGER

I just received the message that a crash related to the PETZL ZIGZAG has occurred!
Thomas Bohl, head of the FSB Oerrel was a few hours ago called directly from the victim ... so it's not a rumor!
The climber, an employee of the city of Celle with its brand new ZIGZAG crashed from 5 meters because the TOP GOLDEN attachment loop is broken ... so free fall!
The climbers it goes under the circumstances .... seriously injured but he is not sure in medical treatment.

Is exactly clear up the situation, one should refrain from using the device ... that also please give out to all the users of which you know that they use the best ZIGZAG ... immediately!

Its translated from German"

Here's the direct link good luck reading it ;-) ACHTUNG WICHTIG!!!! UNFALL MIT ZIGZAG!!!!

Looking forward to hearing from our German friends as to what's up with this report.

Ok, after translating some of the German forum discussion looks like a credible initial report. Apparently Petzl has been notified. Probably will be a while before an official report comes out ie: how it happened, what exactly failed etc.

I'm hoping this climber heals.

There are many people climbing on a ZigZag, and I'm hoping that it was not an accident due to a manufacturer's defect.

Thanks, everyone, for posting this important information!

URGENT MESSAGE FROM PETZL:

“Petzl has recently become aware of an incident report involving the ZIGZAG mechanical Prusik.

According to a post on the treeclimber.eu message board, there is a claim that a connection point on the ZIGZAG broke, resulting in a ground fall.

Petzl has not yet confirmed the failure or seen the ZIGZAG in question, nor are we aware of the specific circumstances under which any such incident occurred.

Therefore, we cannot comment on the report at this time.

That said, we would like to assure our customers that Petzl takes this and all safety issues extremely seriously.

We are currently working diligently to collect information and will issue a statement as soon as we have had a chance to review the circumstances surrounding this reported incident.”

I mentioned some time ago about how the zigzag would stand up to abuse. i.e. the links and dirt etc.

I believe more on the job trials should take place.

If petzl sent me one to destroy, i'm sure it would not take long.

Hope the person who fell is ok, my thoughts go to his family.

I'm too much spoiled by the ZZ to stop climbing on it.
For safety reasons I put a piece of webbing see below (from a quickdraw) between the two biners.
