Dragon Fly Hitch

I just got some Teufelberger Dragonfly, I love everything about the rope except for the fact that my hitches don't want to grab reliably. I've tried 4 wrap michoacans with HRC, 9.3 mm epicord, and 8.0 mm epicord. This is all double line with a hitch climber pulley.

Has anyone used this rope and can recommend a hitch? Is a zigzag the simple/easy answer?

I'm ~145 without gear on for reference.

I think the manufacturing process at Teufelberger leaves a slick coating on their ropes. My trusty ZZ slipped terribly on some new Drenaline a while back. Several people on Tree Buzz suggested washing the rope, but I ended up returning it for other reasons.

I'm currently using 12.7mm Samson Vortex, which has worked flawlessly with the ZZ. Several purchases of Samson's 11.8mm Voyager worked flawlessly with the ZZ, and with several hitch cords before switching to the ZZ.

I'm using MRS, and I weigh about 175 with my gear.

IMO all rope should be ready to use as delivered. That's been the case with the Samson ropes I've bought. I don't doubt washing might improve initial performance, but if that's the case, it should be done at the factory, or at least they should provide explicit directions for washing the rope.

Wish I could give you the helpful hitch answer, but though I am exclusively climbing on Fly type rope (Fly lanyard, Dragonfly hook line, and Firefly main climbing line) I don’t use any hitches.

The TAZ Lov is my ascender-descender, the CT Sparrow is my lanyard adjuster, and the Art Positioner 2 is also on my lanyard in case I need the Sparrow for my hook line. I’m considering just going with 3 TAZ Lovs and selling the other 2 since the Lov is easy, versatile, and works so well on the Fly.

I “got into” Fly rope because I was sure I was going to get an Akimbo, for which it’s recommend, but somehow have gone another way, but am happy with the rope - it’s so darn good looking. :) It’s also very convenient and relaxing to have only one type of rope, that you “know” in distinct colours for each of your lines.

We had a little bit of a hard time getting a michocan to grab reliably on my 11mm htp, I climb with a rr but another guy got a rope wrench so I was trying to figure it out someone on here said a twist on the ends of your hitch cord help and it did the trick for his set up.

Try putting a half twist on one or both eyes.

You probably also need to wash your rope to get the factory film off of it...
