Drag from hell

Food is always a motivator. If I anticipate a crappy or a real long day, I'll buy lunch and dinner. Not only do I want good morale, but I want my guys fueled up to work productively.

God on ya Jamin, a twelve psck of Mt. Dew works wonders too on a hot day. I drag brush with the best of them, if I didn't , it wouldn't be worth the climb. Gotta put your hands on the wood.

When the drags bad we just compete with one another to see who can work harder and faster. That way the work gets done fast, your minds on something else, and the workout is good.

(From boston Bull) Keep spirits high and squash complaining as soon as it starts. Tell them in the a.m., we all know this job is going to suck, the sooner its done the sooner we go.

Complaining spreads like an unchecked cancer! Takes about an hour for total crew morale to go buh bye!

Good guys dont complain, they just get the job done and go onto the next one.

when i even asked a question about topping a little pear tree I was called a by you a "hack" why is Ryan the tree topper free from this title but I am not?

Tired of arguing. Ill get my fiestyness back soon enough!

This thread was about how to drag brush, not top trees.

to be honest I havent been following this thread, just checked in when I responded to you.

The topic here is dragging brush, I think Ryan knows what he did was a hack job, the trees should have been removed, like HE SAID! Do you want me to bash him Debra, will that gets your ovaries warm and fuzzy and make you feel like I didnt single you out?

Why did yuo single ME out here? i wasnt the only one that called you a hack in that thread, or disagreed with your socialist views.

Ryan you should walk from topping jobs like this they are unethical and shine a bad light on our industry. The general public wont know they are vista prunes, and will want their trees to look like this as well.

Hows that Debra, good enough for ya, or should i be a bit harsher?

Dont you have single trees to do that take two weeks? You shouldnt have cyber space time with obs like that on the board. get busy grrrlll!

As far as the bad hump, if there is no way to wench up I....

How do you "wench up"; Get a bunch of ugly women to do the work for you?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not gonna go there, and I don't want to know any more about your job sites. As long as they wear PPE...

Our Moorbark Tornado has a winch so we can...aw, nevermind. I ddn't know I got graded for spelling here. Does my F7 button work when writing a post?

Oh, I didn't think it was a spelling mistake originally.

I lot of hillbillies say "wench" instead of "winch" and don't know any better. I was poking fun at that.

If I knew it was spelling, I wouldn't have said anything. I don't take the time to spell check stuff and have plenty of spelling errors and I don't think we should spellcheck on a forum.

That isn't even funny. My best ground guy was a 16 year meth addict who has been clean about 4 years.

Try peanut butter and crack sandwiches, I hear they're a good alternative to crystal.

Seriously, I think the best you can do is feed'em a really good free lunch and/or kick'em a bonus after a day of 'above and beyond the call' work. Helping with the dragging was a good idea, you can't lead if you aren't willing to do the same job yourself.

No comment on the topping, if you inform/educate the customer and they still want it done, you can either do it the best you can or walk away and let somebody else do it.

I'm all too familiar with that precise type of job Ryan. We do all we can to convince the client it is in their best interest to leave the brush on site, left in a few piles slashed down very well. Tell them it's good for nature etc, throw out a few enviro buzz words.

Otherwise:

-Do it on a tuesday.

-Get the guys to only drag partway each time, spelling each other off on the steeper parts of the drag.

-Cut the pieces as small in-tree as reasonable, don't put too much on the ground at any one time, try and flip the butts so stuff is directed the right way.

-Get a Portable Winch, it can pay for itself in no time in the right setting and can turn a terrible drag into cakewalk.

I think best way to make nasty jobs tolerable is to work at the right pace with the right equipment.

No problem, was lmao at myself. I thought it was a funny response and so played along.

I didn't know hillbillies called them wenches. I thought that was reserved for the logging camps...
