Dolmar 5105

Just got my 026 replacement in. I got myself a new Dolmar 5105 after some disappointing encounters with my last couple of Stihl's and nothing but good on the last year bought Dolmar 7900. To bad the weekend started. Now I have to wait another two days before I can play with it.

Are there more 5105 users here?

I do not currently have a dolmar but was recommended the brand by a game of logging trainer that came to our school. A few of my buddies have them and they can't say enough about them. My dad has been planning on getting some dolmars and the 5105 is one of them. Keep us posted. Me personally I would have to go find something to cut if I was in your position.

I had two 5100S Dolmars, including the first 5100 to ever be fully woods ported. Unfortunately, it, along with 7 other saws at different times, was stolen by a now ex employee. I did recover four of them.

The 5100 is a good saw, but my ported 346 NE is way better and faster. In fact, I just did a simple test in 12" plum yesterday. It was about as fast as my 7900, which was also one of the first 7900's to be ported. Of course the bar lengths, at 18 and 32, played a part in making it a close race.

I also have two Makita 6401's which I bought used from Home Depot. I have excess saws, so they are waiting to be placed in service. They are now the same as a 7901, with the addition of the 79 cc jug.

Roger do Ya' still have the one with the "superpipe" on it....that thing looked like a BEAST! Ive got one of each: 5100 5105 346NE & stihl ms261. I equally modded all. If i had to pick one....it would be a toss up. This is the only saw class where i dont have a clear fav'!? My fav's are ms200t, 7900, ported 3120

All were stock no muffler mods.

I ran a stock dolmar 5105, husky NE 346 50cc, OE 346 45cc, Partner 5000 plus not long ago.
The 5105, 346 50cc are on the same page set at 14,000rpm. The 5000 is right there with them just a tick slower in cut set at 12,500rpm (not bad considering this one was made in 1984), OE 346 45cc had noticeably less torque in the cut with 16" bar buried. Also have to be light handed (no pushing) in bigger cuts and let those rpms do the work. Still like the 346 45cc with the higher rpms 14,800 for limbing etc.

I would own a 5105 in a heart beat. If you have dealer support in your area.

I just wish I had one of the new stihl MS261 on hand that day to test too.
