dogs of treebuzz

This is our Dachshund Charlie. He's a great dog. He is also a kniving thief of food, even stuff you think is out of his reach. I too love dogs dearly. I founded and ran the Michigan Pit Bull Rescue for 15 years, during which time I had between 10 and 26 dogs living in my house with me at any given time. Found new homes for 500-600 dogs in that time period. It was crazy, exhausting, rewarding and disheartening all at the same time. Most people definitely suck compared to dogs.

And because old habits die hard, here's a stray I picked up off the street here in Detroit that we kept for a while before finding a new home for a couple months ago. This is Nae Nae.

Honestly I prefer dogs to people. Truth.
Ah hahaha, except some tree people .. some types of free people... when I went to visit @oceans this summer see him play around with his c10.. he was telling me some swingdude stories that literally had me on my ass laughing, I thought I was gonna lose my breath for good. Maybe it was Eric's impression of you that I imagine was probably about spot on knowing him.

That’s beautiful man, I’ve so much respect for that.

Wasn’t there a Detroit Pit Bull Rescue program on TV too? Maybe on Animal Planet or the True Crime channel. I swear it was Detroit.

My baby mama, and my son’s fiancé both have Pit Bulls, they’re so sweet and very intelligent. Fun to play tug o war with lol a little bit of retired climbing line and a pit bull can really grow you some arm muscles. Or sore shoulder and elbows.

Yeah there are a number of rescues in the Detroit area that are pretty high profile. I flew under the radar in order to be able to do things the way I thought was right. As with most things, you can imagine there are a lot of opinions about how things should be done in animal rescue, and most of those opinions are based on emotional, knee-jerk responses to things people don't fully understand. I wouldn't trade my experiences for all the money in the world. And yes, Pit Bulls are awesome dogs.

Eric is one of my greatest inspirations, thing is we have been climbing about roughly the same amount of years. But when we met 10 years ago, he was so into trees and climbing it sparked mine. He was infectious, and introduced me to so many new techniques that my climbing and cutting and rigging took off exponentially. I will be forever indebted to him and Tom Morra. I had bought a ZK1 the year before, but after meeting Eric I actually started using it everyday and never looked back. Glad you had fun with him, hope you met his brother Brad too.

Pit Bulls are one of my fav breeds. They have such a bad rap.....but most is based on misinformation.

And some of that bad rap is based on fact. Several years ago two pits tore apart (literally) a little kid in the next town over. I know it all comes down to the owner, training, and socialization but it happens. And can happen with any large breed.

That isn't a breed-specific issue. They just have the best toolkit to do damage quickly so when things go wrong it always has bad consequences. I've done Schutzhund training with various breeds and Pit Bulls are less prone to being aggressive and protective than most of the other breeds people do that sort of work with like Rottweilers, Malinois, German Shepherds, etc. It's a matter of perception. Any time a child or person is wrongly maimed by a companion animal it is a terrible thing.
