Do you use a chain cover or protector on your climbing saw when you are in the canopy?

I got a variety of bungee cord at MEC back when I made a HAAS (sorry Michael) and took about a foot, punched two small holes on the inboard face of a scabbard, threaded it through and made it into a figure 8 where the other end of the figure 8 just pops over the chain brake nicely in locked position. To take off, slip the loop off and hang it on the caritool by the same loop. It just pulls off by tugging the bungee, one handed. Extra mod was a second small scabbard piece duct taped at the right spot to cover the spikes. I've had chain and spikes both catch rope. Once busy the saw hangs ok and the scabbard is just stowed until I might do a substantial travel through the tree or descend etc. If the loop gets a bit loose rejig the knot. Put a bit of electrical tape on the knot, bungee cord is not very stable. Been working ok for years. Keeps the scabbard on in the truck too. It's a loose scabbard, not the 201 one mentioned earlier that clips in place.

I never used a scabbard for a saw...power or hand...until I got my first Zubat. When was that?

My lanyard was always on left and an eye for rope management was my go-to mode. Flip slack left.

Just me...

I’m going to try this idea today. Cut out one side of the scabbard out just leaving the part covering the chain and the very end to hook to the nose of the train. Drain a small hole for a short bungee at the other end. Tie the other end of the bungee to the saw. Pretty sure it’ll work

Keep the Saw on my Left, Lanyard on my right- that keeps seems to reduce the nicks. Have my climbing line through a biner on my right leg, often times, which keeps it our of harms way ( I also run a spur through it less). I also tie the saw up if I'm not using it for a bit and I have some more technical climbing to do (not practical for removals). When the saws OFF, I disengage the brake - don't know if that helps.

I'm a dangler - especially on straight up vertical trees, on removals. I'll admit it...

I also replace my rope every 6 months, and have a tied, rather than a splice, lanyard (and replace that every 6 months). Wish I could splice!!! After 6 months, they definitely have a couple of nicks on them, but not crazy.

My groundman always puts the scabbard on sending the saw up the tree- I never did tho. He's a much BETTER groundman than I ever was!

From 201 to 661 if the saw is being sent up, i do not want a scabbard on it. I also keep my saw attached to me with an RE transporter on my right hip unless I have 2 saws, then I’ll clip the one I’m using less on the back of my saddle. I haven’t really had issues to speak of with picking ropes or wounding trees. The occasional small pick on rope. I keep my lanyard on my left D ring and I’m very mindful of my gear so maybe that helps me
