Digger Pine - Hillside Rigging

Nice to get those photos Chewy, and thanks for the story. Great point about having pitch in the line, i'll remember that. That 7 ft drop must generate a massive amount of force on that stable braid.

Good info Rog, I never thought of clipping it back onto itself.

Thanks X man, that was fast. I'll be marching down to the post office in the morning, I won't be leaving without my rigging ring... and poster.

This is good stuff and should have it's own thread. Sticking it in here with Bix makes less findable. Everyone whats to learn about broken biners.

Well I guess I missed that vid first time around. Good one Bix. Now I see why the biner post got on here. Still think it should be linked to the outside to get some more views.

If I may stick a finger in the proverbial pie, what concerns me about the neg blocking w/ biner is, it's not just that the biner gets shock loaded. It's that the gate is being exposed to being repeatedly smashed into the spar therefore rendering it unable to share its part of the load. As in Chewwys picture the gate looks like it took one hell of a bashing before I failed.
Btw, I don't think you have to pay Murph any licensing fees unless you wear your kid's stihl sweatshirt while flopping a stem.

Bigwood, you make a very good point about the danger of sandwiching the carabiner. I too noticed the gate on my carabiner was deformed. I attributed that to the notion that the spine had been loaded to the degree that the carabiner nose had pulled out of the gate (deforming the gate), the rope slipped upward toward the nose, and the top section of the carabiner steel bent backward/upward far enough to break the steel. Now you've got me thinking. Perhaps our carabiner did get crushed between block and spar.

At any rate, I started a new thread here: http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/showflat.p...43ef#Post344758

Perhaps we should continue the discussion there.

smart thought BigWood. Knots don't care about a bashing, a biner sure would though. I was just thinking the same thing on the other thread, now I look like a regurgitator.
