Hey Tod, in your fourth picture on your last pick, it looks like you used 2 long dead eye slings on either side of the pick to balance the load as it was lifted.

Did you have to to upsize the slings, what kind of attachment knot did you use, and approx. how much did the piece weigh?
 
Jason did all the rigging on that bit. The slings are 9/16" Amsteel. I think he used 2 dbl. cloves? Another great technique is to girth hitch the splice then tie a bowline with the other end and place the sling between on the hook. This will automaticlly equlize. It weighed 7,000lbs It was lifted in 2 pieces.
 
They hold up pretty well. They will have more exterior abrasion but they are MUCH easier to inspect than round slings. Only using round slings can be tough on the sling because of dynamics and are very hard to inspect. I usually replace the spider legs twice a year. When they get real fuzzy they are harder to use. My next run of rope will be a dbl. braid with an exotic core. Dyneema or something.
