(Dead) live oak widowmaker close call

Did you pop off big leads from the lift that shook the tree significantly?

Yes, good point. See pic at :33 in. Big sucker. This tree was a wake up for how brittle and fragile these big dead’s are. Heavy glass…

I used the lift instead of just dumping it mostly because I wanted to remove the limbs that would have damaged the still-green tree - and ironically also because I also didn’t want to be under the dead/hungup limbs banging wedges.

Actually a Jonsered 2188, a red husky 390. Port work credit to Stump Shot Saw Shop in WI.

Should probably note the dead dry coast live oak is pretty hard. Chain has to be perfect. Too aggressive and it will grab and chatter bad. Not aggressive enough and it will just skate. Same with the dry eucalyptus down here in the valley. That chain was a little on the less aggressive side for felling.

that saw was ripping... nice job.. you stay in this business long enough and you;re going to see some strange things...
