de thorning honey locusts?

is dethorning the trunk portions of a honey locust a major health risk for the tree? how often have you herd of de thorning a tree?

I've done it on a few small trees under 15'. Its like pruning suckers off crab apples, you cut one off and 4 more sprout back in its place.

Those thorns are nasty.

Yeah, a lifetime contract with the owner! We de-thorn the locusts on apt sites where there's a risk of contact. Major pain to climb around them!

i got a 40 footer i need to clean next week. i couldent give the HO a definite answer. i told him we can try and remove them and see what happens by next year. if they grow back then i wonder if i should tell the HO or keep it a secret. hmmmm $$$

tell him that it will need to be done again in about 2 yrs depending on the growing season. No need not to tell, that'll only come back to bite you on the a$$!
