Dang - Certification Lapsed

Amazing. My certification lapsed in late 2009, and just found out from a customer checking my status. Good news, they still want to hire me for consultation.

ISA sent notices, which never came back. Hence they went somewhere. I never got them, nor the email they sent. The house is now our rental, and the address literally changed to the street on the other side, so maybe that had something to do with it. In the meanwhile, I had been taking classes to keep my hours current for renewal.

But they say I have to retake the test.

Which I can guarantee I ain't going to pay for one more time.

Apparently I can write the board to ask for an exemption, assuming I produce proof of the college classes for CEU hours. Might do it - maybe not.

At least I have my other permanent Certification to my credit.

Anyway, that was a weird piece of update today, that I will have to ponder about whether to make a request or not. Because honestly, I'm not real thrilled about sending the ISA the money for Certification, since my other Certification far surpassed it, provided I keep my nose in classes and books to keep up to speed.

Good luck on your appeal but don't get your hopes up. I and my wife had a similar situation like yours. ISA said NO! I felt like they were more interested in their renewal fee.

From one angle the process makes sense. On the other hand, it reminds me of companies that sell products like batteries and razor blades, which need us to keep spending money.

The ISA sends a ton of junk mail, and I every piece is money wasted. I don't think their membership or certification is worth what they charge. Their budget has to be TOO fat.

Presently, I been wishing to shed the burden of my landscape license and the CEU stuff associated with it. It would mean just doing design, consulting and pruning less than 4" diameter cuts. So I'm going to chew the leather on that one for a few more years. But it's getting to be a drag as tests get harder, license fees keep going up (100% in the past 6 years), and new CEU stuff shows up out of thin air.
