Cycles to Failure

This is all a real good arguemeant for a climber knowing history of lines used.

As far as downgrading a life line to rigging, i guess that depends why you are doing it. Body weight and impacts can take out a certain range of elasticity, but yet still leave 'tougher' elasticity range that is accessible to rigging loadings i believe. So, can still be used for dampening that range, when doesn't dampen body impacts as well etc.

But, then too; a line that has the lower body weight range of elasticity 'beat' out of it, might then be used more for a static line for light loadings i believe. And of course, any dragging, tying loads down etc. could make use of and keep wear on downgraded lines that are suitable to the task. Why would one retire a line and use a fresher line to drag, pull etc.; when you can keep the wear and tear, risk of mishandling (cutting etc.) a fresh line (seen it done)?
