OK, here me now on what you need to use to cut all those funky, impossible to cut ropes.........
We have tried just about everything from ceramics to the Sears "handi-cut" shears (which we still use for natural fiber and some synthetics, but NEVER high modulus fibers since the blades just dent and don't really cut well at all.
The tool to use are Kai Scissors.
Josh actually turned me on to these when he got me a pair for Christmas one year and we haven't looked back...
Let me tell you, these things are scary sharp, I mean when they are new they will go through amsteel, tech cord, kevlar, and technora so fast you won't believe it. There is a re-sharpening service that is offered to keep them going strong (although the re-sharpening doesn't seem to be quite as good as the brand new ones). We have batches we rotate, so we have a sharp kits around all the time, but you guys won't be cutting nearly as much of this as we do so yours will last a lot longer than ours do.
The website is
www.kaiscissors.com They sell a lot to fabric customers, but give them a call and ask what Knot & Rope Supply uses and they will point you in the right direction. (use the discount code "rope" for 20% off)
So yea, these bad boys work great for us, but hey, if there is something better out there I'm open to it.
Rich, what are you usin?
