Cut and chuck X170 video

Another little video usign the drift X170, like Steves.

This was a little saturday job, chucking birch over phone lines to the carpark next door (empty on saturdays).

Stopped filming at tea break and forgot after!!!

Some scratches on my lens now, and I'm publishing it in a different way. To my eye the picture is not as good as others I've seen, but I'm not sure.

Surely you have breaks, coffee or something??

We grade our customers on the quality of the tea and biscuits (cookies). This one was quite good, warm scones with jam too!

that is one nice saw. are you really happy with it? how about replacement blades? are they expensive? i use the felco but am thinking of buying new one because can not get blades too easily. one other person said silky is good. but this one is awesome looking!!!!

I liked the work Rupe. You had a challenge there with the wires, but you did very well.

No negative commetns on the work. But, I'm noticing some issues with the X170, however:

--It is much larger than the VIO, isn't it? --It looks like it. Has it got snagged yet?

--It doesn't sound like it is capturing sound that well. Both with low volume and distorted sound.

--You mentioned scratched lenses... What are the lenses made of? A polymer of some sort?

--I can see the picture quality is descent for the cost of the X170. Are you still happy you bought it?

Just curious. I'm not bust'n you in any way. I'm just wondering. If/when I buy a second helmet cam, I'm checking pros & cons.

Very happy with it. Its a harsher cut than the smaller silky saws. the new blade is approx 70% the cost of a whole new saw.

Only problem is, that you tend to get used to the long stroke, so if I were to switch to a smaller saw for fine pruning I would most likey cut my self as the end of the saw comes off the work. But with discilpine you could switch from one length to another.

Silky saws in general are the best IMO. JUst too many to choose from. If I hadn't got this one I would say the longer zubat is the best to get. (300 0r 330)( thats mm!! )

Hi, I expect a bit of bust'n and negative comments its ok!

I think the lens has a permanent scratch but was also dirty in that film above. Once cleaned the scratch is not so bad. It must be a polymer lens, not glass, plus there is no cover. I had a soft bag for it (my own, not supplied) but that got lost on day one. Now its chucked in my lunch bag along with all the tins of caviar and smoked salmon!

The sound recording is awfull! It picks up low frequencies quite well. karabiners clipping and wood breaking etc. But doesn't pic up chainsaws that well or my voice (which is a good thing). I kind of like the effect it gives except when you hit twigs with it and the sound of that is too loud!

A friend of mine took his apart and removed some padding around the mic. He hasn't shown any videos since so I don't know if its an improvement so I don't want to do it myself just yet.

It is quite large! But only gets snagged now and then. I wouldn't be filming in rubbish dense trees anyway so not too much of a problem. I can remove it from my helmet and put it back without taking the helmet off so thats good.

I'm very happy I bought it, it cost very little and that is the main thing! Its a cheap cam that is actually perfectly suited to our work. The wide angle captures whats going on really well.

I'm only practicing so far. I might get a better one some time, but would always keep it for a spare or second angle cam!

Its also good on my bike!

I don't know. It doesn't say on the box or (basic) instructions. But I'm geussing its not made in either europe or the US! Who are the leaders in this kind of technology? Neither of us for sure!

So cost in US probably cheaper due to higher numbers of imports?

Anyway $199 does not sound like much? It almost doesn't matter if you don't like it for that money. Use as a spare or treat it rough. It does enough to make it worthwhile IMO.

One thing to remember with that camera, it only uses Lihtium batteries! Anything else just won't last more than an hour!

I can use lithiums and get a day out of a pair but thats all.

TBH that is the most annoying thing. Sound, size, picture are all acceptable but the battery life is poor!

they do sell them in the US, they are about 70 bucks through sherill, bailey's 75 bucks. They are awesome saws, I have used them in the past, but not currently.
