Cross over for E2E

I'm looking for good instructions for doing the cross over and proper taper when doing eye 2 eye spliced. Specifically hollow braid, like tenex-tec.

I did one today and it worked out but i just winged it. I want a little more instruction for something i'm going to be using at work or comps.

Sampson has a good set of instructions that can be used for tenex or icetail, but I would increase the taper a bit more than what they specify to make the crossover a little smoother.

Yeah i have those instructions. See that makes a very specific 33" eye to eye. I'm making a footlocking prussic, so the measurements are different. Does everything still apply? Specifically step 3. If the measurements are different will it still be 13 strands down to do the taper?

Isn't there a general formula to use so that it applies to different lengths?

I worked out a general formula, but alas it is at home in my splice book. I will look it up tonight and put it up when I get a chance. For the life of me I cant remember that formula!!!

I do a 5 inch crossover on mine, seems to smooth out much better than the short ones. And I do my taper 5-7 strands down depending on what material Im using, gets to the working diameter quicker that way, less of the "fat section" at the ends.

For a different length E2E just adjust the distance between marks B and A and the tail bury (mark c to the ends of the cordage) accordingly.

For example the instructions will produce an 33" E2E to make a 66" E2E double the length measurements and keep the tapers the same.

Make sense?

Country boy- for the rope you're using, just do no crossover. You're doing a EYE-eye foot lock prusik, right? Just bury shorter tails with locked brummells on each side and you'll have a smooth flexible finished product with no lumps.
