Craning It

wow man that job looks like it was the ultimate combo of super cool and super lame. really nicely done, that was next level. is that something that would be hard to get a crane op to work with you on? seems like he would have to have a lot of trust in you as the climber.
ive never done a crane job so i dont know what the typical relationship between op and climber is.

yeah thats a pretty good summary :)

me and scotty have been going at it together for some years now and have a really good relationship built up over numerous jobs.
certainly helps with the blind crane days when all he has to go on is my verbal commands via walkie talkie's so I left the diatribe between us in the video for you all.
we discuss the lifts size and positions in advance so to be on the same page during the job. that and scotty is bloody good at operating that crane :D

Nice job Ben! Demonstrating a super high level of control there.

What are you using to communicate with the crane op? I used some bluetooth coms the other day, first time using coms of any kind, seriously changed the game.

Feeling fortunate to be able ride the ball.

thankyou Ray, there wasn't much wriggle room there on a couple of pieces :sorprendido3:,
Scotty provided the walkie talkie set up , I think it was a siemens but didn't pay too much attention ,
I am interested in a bluetooth setup as well, as you say the level of control you can achieve with direct communication between the cutter and the driver does change the game up quite nicely in our favour.
yep riding the ball must be sweet , I cheated and slid down the customers roof :D

A guy I work with from time to time bought a set of protos helmets fully equipped with the sena coms, the crane operator had a headset as well of course.

Crystal clear communication regardless of noise level. Simple, easy to use controls, great product.

My only complaint is that it was kind of too much at times, the crane operator is a chatter box!

I highly recommend em though.

Wow! What a job! It looked like it could be a bit nerve racking. Moving the trunk wood over the those structures that can damage easily. Also a big up to the crane operator, doin it blind. Again, you made it all LOOK easy.
Would you rather work with chains, straps or ropes on a crane jam? I ment to say jam.Does it depend on the job?I am asking because the last 2-3 videos with you working with a crane your using chains.

Hey Joe , the chains are mandatory in Oz so no choice there, given my pick I would have something like a multiple spider leg crane bag on the hook but I am used to setting and adjusting the chains for my desired lift so ....
the skinny is I advised the owner to remove this tree before he built next to the tree but did not realise at the time just how close he was going to build  and in a storm recently the tree started to split out so it was time to go .
I got a shock when I went to make safe and a crane was the only real option at that stage.
and yes Scotty is rather good at running that crane :)

Wow Ben. Now my boss would have expected it done without a crane and would have bitched about how long it was taking. Good of you to not drive a spike through the metal roof. Seen that a few times. So does everyone collect their rain water like that homeowner? That's a huge tank. Hard to believe it rains there that much. I always think of Oz as hot and dry with little brown men walking around in loin cloths and large sticks. Too many Dundee movies I guess. Its always fun to watch. I see you smashed your left thumb recently. Take care my friend.

Great rigging Ben! Kickin ass down there, What kinda tree? Oh, nice roof clmbing too. I gotta say I'm a bit jealous of the weather, looked like a perfect day.

Great video, Ben. I have a buddy who is going to help me out next year on the ground. I send him links to your videos, and he always calls me with stuff like, "How fuckin' high up was that dude?" and "How the hell does he get that stuff out of there without breaking something?" and he really liked this one. You didn't know you were producing training videos, did you?

thus demonstrating the value of a good boss.

its now a legal mandatory for all new homes being built in this state to have at least one rain water tank set up or the house doesn't get signed off at finish of construction.

Hard to believe it rains there that much.
winter is pretty good on a el nino cycle we get two years of drought one year of flood one good year and then three years of drought.
the municipal dams are not so chockas this year so could be water restrictions after new years but I don't see the desalination plant being fired up just yet.

I see you smashed your left thumb recently. Take care my friend.
man is that some good eyes you have there - how many years as a EMT again? :D

Hey Levi, what did winter come early to Colorado this year or ?
that was a fun one - bit like a game of chess trying to get the queen out early , something I need more practice on Eh? :sorprendido3:
tree was a white cedar , a Melia azedarach, the berries are poisonous to every thing but rats.
looks like we both are seeing a little roof top action :D I'm thinking yours was a wee bit slippery ;)

Nope but it is a good feeling to be handing something back down the line as I have been able to improve my A game from other peoples work on youtube and then blatantly using these techniques to profit from at my work sites with nary a thought to paying any royalties for such blatant blaggery :)
