Crane vs Boss

Well crap. There it is. A jib. Where did that come from? Sorry. Been really really sick. Smoking high fever and pretty dull mind. I don't know why he didn't suggest the jib. To be totally honest I'm not sure how that changes things up other than reducing the angle so I guess that was an option. Never thought to ask the op.

a jib will increase the pick capacity at any given radius because the weight of the job vs the weight of an equivalent length of main boom is less. (just look at the construction) open lattice of a jib versus beefy solid boom and multiple sheaves on the tip for the main.

Some bosses are hard to say no to. I've had a couple of them very nearly kill me. In retrospect I feel it would have been totally acceptable to nope out, but then again there have been many times I got that feeling of doom and everything worked out just as it should. It's a hard call. Last year I crewed for a guy who was without a doubt ready to put lives on the line, after 3 long and very profitable weeks I got the fuck out. The constant feeling of always being worked like a machine and expendable didn't seem worth it at the time. Not sure I made the right decision though when I got my check for 18 racks

I toy around with doing my own thing on my own terms again. I would like to do only tree care. Pruning and such but I truly don't feel my market would support what it would take to build the team I would need to feel confortable. Largely our market is a removal market and that demands more of an equipment investment than I want to make I've been down that road. Need more stuff to do more stuff and a client base that would support work through the winter. I couldn't recruit quality individuals from out of the area without a promise of 12 months of work and commensurate pay. I'd love to relocate but it's not in the cards. I'd also like to travel and work around the country for a week at a time but that's not possible either. Just gotta stick it out. Something great will come along. I'm long overdue.

If the jib is getting put on,it's for added length, not for a strength gain. Boss man will definitely tell you to do some sketch moves that can kill you,i had a euc that fell over into two others, they wanted to preserve the saplings below, guy that hired me is trying to say to just let the last trunk section rip while I'm on it or some shit, fukn moron,i set another line and get cradled with just enough length to make the cut...just as I assumed,I would have been killed if i made the cut from the position he was trying to have me in. not a correct statement. totally dependent on load chart of particular machine. jib ratings are based on strength of materials, not tipping factors at any main boom angle.
