Crane boom fail.

i dont know what that is A2B ?

If you use a crane you should know. Its an Anti 2 Block. Its a sensor that stops the ball from being winched up into the pulley at the top of the boom. It could have prevented this accident.

oh, thats the thing that hangs by little chains around the cable above the ball. only seen those on bigger cranes.

Check this video out and give me your thoughts!!

during the video, someone keeps saying it isn't the operators fault. i beg to differ. a2b systems are to be tested at each shift. the way the systems are set up they are fail safe. in other words, unless all components are functional, you can't put the machine into a two block condition. unless the system was being operated in by pass which the op has to deliberately do.

I heard that too. I agree with you. They looked at the cable snapping and automatically called it the malfunction of the crane. Not the error of the operator. I think it was error of the operator. I think he cabled up too much and it put too much pressure on the cable. The A2B would have solved this problem had they used it

I think he extended without wiring down after he cleared the tree. Somebody will have to ask him. At least everybody lived through it

Not knowing what A2B is is different than not knowing what an anti-two block device is. I've been around cranes my entire working life and I had no idea what was meant when A2B was written. Not knowing internet arcanei is different than a lack of real knowledge.

When I stow the crane I always make sure the A2B weight has a bit of slack, I get that slack by winching up (once in the boom rest) and then hitting the defeat switch. This prevents the going down the road wear and tear of the weight yanking on the switch while traveling. It also means every time I set up and put it away, it's tested. I screwed up a few A2B switches before figuring this out.....

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. But the comment was directed towards the poster who didn't know what it was.
