Contour Roam

My wife got me a Contour Roam video camera for Christmas so I could make videos of tree work and hunting. I admit to being sort of a techno clutz dinosaur (I still use a flip phone; ok you can stop laughing now). I can point and click and cut and paste but it may take me a while to get the hang of uploading videos. Anyway, my first question regard the mounting gizmos that come with the camera. Is the sticky tape mount secure enough to put on my hardhat or do I need a more secure mounting system? I did a couple of test videos so far; duct taped the camera to my dog's collar and another to my daughter's skateboard.

I have a contour, I put a thin string through the hole in the back and and a bit of line through two little holes in my hardhat, I clip the loops together with a really tiny accesory biner.

I havent knocked the mount off the helmet but I have knocked the cam off the mount, so it saved my bacon.

I just picked up the Contour Roam a couple weeks ago. Really like it. Big problem for me was getting the best location on my helmet so when I fiddled with hitches or looked straight ahead etc., whatever my eyes looked at would be visible in the video. I quickly used up the precut adhesive pads that came with it trying different positions on the helmet. I picked up some 1" 3M 4001 exterior "sign tape" at the hardware store and used that instead. Works great. I make it double thickness, tape's not wide enough to cover the entire bottom of the mount so I just put pieces flush side by side then trim with scissors. I've already put the camera through the paces complete with smallish falling wood hitting the camera from above, no problem, it won't budge off the mount or separate from my helmet. If you slide the camera all the way "home" on the mount I don't think you can knock it off the mount. I'm going to add a mini wind screen over the mic, way too noisy even in low winds.

I tried my Jack and Coke, cleaned really well but got sticky when it dried.

You will feel good about the security of the tape if you try to remove the mount to change position on the helmet, takes a bit of work, I use a knife blade and keep working it between the tape and the helmet until it gives up. Very tenacious, you have nothing to worry about.

Hey mister sir, the sticky tape is secured enough just make sure to clean the surface of the helmet first.
Andrew, try going to storyteller and connect your camera to your computer,
You can pretty much change all the features in your camera and lower the outside mic volume as well. Good luck and ill see u next weekend!

I have given up on Audio from helmet cams. Now, for filming purposes I focus on getting the shot I want 3-4 times and then voice over the audio during editing. Much better finished product IMHO.
