I found a good looking, low priced 250 but its a 5.4L. I'm wanting to use it to pull a 9-12" chipper and/or a dump trailer, maybe a chipper/dump trailer combo. I'll be talking to people I know and doing some searching in the mean time, but any thought on this from the guys here would be awesome, Thanks!

5.4L Triton has expensive spark plug maintenance/repairs. Plugs will seize and break off in the head. My mechanic had our 5.4 for best part of 3 weeks ..... Patiently soaking the plugs with penetrating oil and gradually applying torque to remove the plugs. Still sheared 2 plugs.

5.4 are a great choice for a gas engine. We have several that have over 200k miles on them , we use them around the shop and for moving parts . We have had more problems with the trans then the engines . The one thing to make sure of is that the truck has a large trans cooler. Ford put small trans coolers in from the factory or ran them through the radiator on many of these trucks. After market Trans coolers can be bought and installed for around $250.00 in my mind thats cheap insurance for a $3500.00 dollar trans . With the engines I would suggest running Mobil 1 synthetic oil , it really does help when you work the trucks hard like we all do. Good luck

I have a 2000 F250 with a alum dump insert, and tow a 2,700 lb chipper. It certainly leaves me wanting for more, and it loves gas ~9-10 mpg (lots of hills, rural roads).

I had to replace the intake manifold due to a water leak. I could have gotten away with a new gasket, but there were some other issues. Also replaced the coil packs, and plugs. The plugs are buried deep in the head, and very in accessible. It took a gentle touch but I didn't have a issue. Hard to work on due to lack of space and the engine being tucked so far back. Other wise it's a good truck.
