Comparing Harnesses

I'm in need of a new harness but I live in India so I can't try them out and I can't decide what to buy... I will work with it everyday, up to 5 hours staight. My prime choices so far are; Komet Butterfly II, Austria duo II, new Tribe Progear, and Buckingham Glide II. I have used the following harnesses so far; Edelrid Tree Magic, and Petzl Navaho Vario(old one). the Magic is a bit of a pincher and the Vario crushes the ribs like anything. Can someone please give me some info regarding this? thanks, Island

Butterfly II, lightweight, easy on/easy off, comfy for hours. You have to get it adjusted right, but once you do, you don't have to give it a second thought.

Island! Wow! you live in India? what is the treework like there? or are you a canopy scientist?

Where did you get the name Island from?

Harnesses question? Komet Dragonfly(batten seat) allows for slighty more comfort than the Butterfly, but its all very subjective.

I hear good things about both the TreeFlex and the treeMOTION.

what build are you?

Exactly what I would ask. I use a glide (try) but with no hips or butt it falls right down. I have to pull it really, really tight. Other than that, TM is the cats a$$.

Yeah, I'm wondering about those 2 also. They're both nice, the price just keeps going up though... I do prefer buying quality gear so I'm not sure still. Problem is that I can't try them out!

I measure 5'10" or 1.83 meters. 70 odd kgs (slim build). thanks, Island

This isn't sufficient information to determine a well fitting harness. Your waist measurement (as used in trouser sizing) will give you a better idea. Be aware that a one size fits all harness will place your hip Ds too far around your back or too far in front depending on your waist size.

If the waist is adjustable but not the positioning of the Ds, this is less than ideal.

Check out other harnesses with varying waist sizes with the hip Ds adjusted accordingly. One size harnesses do not adjust to fit all, but they are easier and cheaper to produce.

Another alternative is Sierra Moreno's Backjack with its special built in lumbar support - very comfortable when using side D to side D attachment points. Legloops could be wider, and as laz2 said, its one of those harnesses which is not very adjustable, maybe they need to update it.

Good harness nevertheless - built to last, needs a bit of refinement in design department.

forgot waist size: 32! thanks, Island

I started wear ing the BFLY2 Years ago also & like it better than any other i've tried for comfort & light weight! I would like to try a tree motion ( little heavier ) Has anyone Break strength tested the TM bridge!!? I wondered how the fisherman knot sitting behind the steel edge held up in a strength test? (I assume it's over 5k lbs.)

I heard today that the UK average waist size, for men, is 37in. Surprised?

Any idea of the US average?

What's that. 100+ kgs?
That's way over the point of no return

haha well, my waist is 31/32, I'm 5'8" and I weigh nearly 80k, so someone my height with a 37in waist could well be on their way to crisis point.

It's ok to be bigger if you're built like a beast, but I think most people over 100kg have pastries and cakes to thank for their girth!
