How many times have you been in the air and needed to tell someone on the ground that you needed a tool, or to look out, or to move a vehicle...and verbal communication wasn't an option?
How important are the roles of tone, body language and facial expression when talking?
This is a great opportunity to share some of the creative ways we communicate in the industry. More to come, KMS

I've been discussing this topic with Kristian for months now and he has some very sound ideas on effective communication and conflict resolution all based on a lot of real-life work experience and feedback from his colleagues. I know that subjects like this sometimes take second seat to other more pressing or seemingly "interesting" topics in terms of priority and capturing interest. However, from what I know about Kristian's style, enthusiasm and the effort he's putting into this class, you'll not be disappointed.

Today I had a very unique experience because I had been working with this great crew but I've been having a hard time getting solid communication out of one of the lead guys. He didn't seem to make his intentions very clear and rarely asked anyone for help. I started to get a little frustrated after a couple days but kept trying and mind you he is a really nice guy. Well at some point during lunch today he mentioned that he is 50% deaf. Talk about an ah ha moment. Of COURSE his communication needs would differ from someone with optimal hearing. It was humbling but more than that it gave me more information and made me think more about other peoples communication needs...and my own perceptions.
It also gave me a lot more to go on this Saturday at class and I hope to see you ALL there. Yes that means you. Everyone have an awesome day. I've been thinking a lot about my buzz bruthas. WZ

I too have worked with hearing inpaired people before and I have found more than once that they are reluctant to admit that they have a condition. It would have made it a whole lot easier to work alongside them had I known earlier.

Aw man it was great. I had all the elements I needed and all the things you need in an audience. Someone finishing your sentences, people disrupting the works, someone falling asleep, people unloading about how we communicate and don't communicate in the workplace. It was perfect. 12 people total. Everyone contributed and we all had a lot of laughs and shared some great techniques.
At one point I asked everyone to tell the class how they went about an appology when they knew they were wrong. We had all manner of "I'm sorry" and hilarity ensued! But then one of the guys said "I guess I don't really say I'm sorry but if I am...I go help that person do their work and I don't say anything" and that was my favorite response all day. I will definately do it again and it gave me some bugs to work out too which is good. Thanks Chris

Way to go Kristian! Sounds like you had all three kinds of participants. Prisoners, Vacationers, and Volunteers. I hope you found some of the skills from Intensive helpful. You are an Incredible Instructor! True or True?

Thank you all so much for your support. That means the world to me, really. I am really thinking about expanding on the course to demonstrate crane signals and tons more terms such as pitch, yaw and roll. (Thanks Jamin). We hit on a LOT of terms. I'm excited and I'll definately do more. Thanks for the feedback everyone and I'll shoot your way anytime Treehumper. Maybe for a conference or TCC. Let me know.
