Problem is the tree is owned by the local council not the home owners. Its stands in about an 12 foot gap between two back yard fences and spreads out over 4 back gardens in total. The howmowners dont want the mulch nor do they want us in there gardens or taking down fences. We've over come them letting us into the gardens by using a bit of diplomacy but we still can drop stuff onto the lawns.

The 8 foot gap between the fences does widen to the left into a small grass area which has footpath access which we could get a chipper into and chips could be left there. The main problem is the tree still needs to be rigged and the main stem is a bit unstable.

Personally I think it will be ok and have given my price. We'll wait and see.

I've just re read this and it should say CAN NOT DROP STUFF ON TO THE LAWNS, hence the need for rigging.

If money isn't their concern and no other companies want to do the job, I'd say take your time and make the extra effort to be safe. Do it the way you know you can without taking chances and price it for 1.5 times that! Then, you won't be pressured to take a shortcut or to be ballsy. Use that GRCS and controil everything. /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sorry Mark, I only just noticed this post. I think your about right, it can be climbed cos I did so in strong winds and it felt ok (ish) Its a live oak so we should be able to rig it small.

Normally it would be only a day job but I've used a slightly higher care factor than 1.5!

Thanks for all the replies on this one. I've been away for a couple of days so I'm just catching up.

Everything has been noted. Guying not possible.

Two cranes! Hardly room for one crane, definatly no access for another at the back.

Tom, I went camping this weekend on sandy soil, so my tentsagritty! Roping it together may happen I've allowed enough time for that.

Most obvious solution= Get a bigger crane. Yes definatly an option. My role in this was to provide a quotation for manually rigging the tree using GRCS type stuff. The tree company i was quoting for met me there and they also had a crane operator with them. That particular guy only uses a 30ton crane and that was not going to work. My climbing quote will go in but the company are looking into getting a bigger crane, if they do that then one of their guys will do it. My proposal just gives them another option.

Thanks again for input, nuther one coming up soon!
