Colorado Tree Company Looking for Subcontracting Climbing Arborist

We service Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Colorado and are based out of Lafayette, CO. Been in business 13 years. We prune and remove trees, technical rigging and crane jobs as well as small residential trees. We also have a Qualified Supervisor who specializes in PHC. Just need another climber. Looking for someone who likes to climb in a chill environment. Anywhere from $200-$400/day DOE. If the weather is bad, we don't work. I also have a spot in my backyard that I am renting for a motorhome/travel trailer for $750/month. So if you want to try working with us and need a place to rest your head after work, then this opportunity may be perfect for you.

Send your resume to: info@cetreecare.com or give us a call and ask for Kit Wagner 303-362-1002. I rarely check back to posts so please email and don't wait for a reply back from this thread.

I don't quite understand, are you paying $750 a month for the extra space, or would you be charging people $750 to park their camper?

My interpretation is that you can rent a spot in his backyard to park your camper for only $750/mo. Sounds expensive for 1/100 of an acre, about half the cost of a 1 bedroom apartment. I would have expected the rent to be about a third of that, but maybe you get lots of amenities.

Personally, if I was trying to hire a contract climber in that area of Colorado, I’d offer the yard footprint much lower (or free) and/or offer higher wage for a skilled contract climber. The cost of living in those areas is HIGH, and Im sure the cost for tree work is similarly high.

Normally both my RV spots are full. Right now, one of them is open so I am offering a spot to rent from me if you need a place to put a camper. It just makes sense if someone is coming in from out of town to have a place to rent right where they work so you don't have to worry about commuting or having a car. The spot faces 170 acres of open space and had a view of the Flatirons. So it is really quiet and really beautiful.

I keep my operation small and mechanized.

I would pay a solid, proficient, efficient Climbing Arborist
/ all- arounder (works all aspects of job in-tree and ground), supervises groundworker, drives trailers, operates mini/ chipper/ grinder/ dump truck, basic maintenence like maintaining fluid levels, greasing, changing grinder teeth, saw maintenance) $50/hour, all gear provided.
WA paid sick leave is 1 hour per 40 worked... about 50 hours per year.

If I was a sub to another company, I'd be looking at $100+/ hour, with more for crane work.

No-- it is a subcontracting position-no gear provided--no taxes withheld. What do you get paid for a day of tree work as a subcontractor where you are?
Absolute minimum of $75/hour, and I usually have a “minimum”, that hovers around your day rates… I usually get a percentage of the job. I think paying a contract climber an hourly is kind of silly….

Paying a contract climber hourly also may not be legal. Paying someone to work exclusively for you as a contractor is definitely not legal.

Insurance, taxes, rigging/climbing gear, 4-5 saws, transportation, and fuels etc…. It all stacks up. Many trades cost much more per hour, or they charge by the job. I usually figure 30% off the top right away for taxes. At 200-400 a day(before taxes) that’s not leaving much for the climber.

Unfortunately there are quite a few companies around here that do this to skirt paying workers comp. They hire everyone on as 1099
