coat hanger splicing tool

I am starting to explore splicing and saw a great photo of this coant hanger ( I think) tool witn a carabiner handle. I am not sure if it is a new post or if I was digging in the past. I was hoping someone might know a way to this or other photos like it, I am not sure if this is the forum for this but it seemed to make sense... thanks so much!

Thanks! I made a coat hanger last night and did my first safety blue splice. I got the Brian Toss wand and video but on the third bury I had a heck of a time getting the wand in, it's old rope so not the easiest to work with but I got it done! Thank you for the info, I will try to find some piano wire and try it out!

I have a toss wand and use it often, but for 16 strand, I go to the coat hanger. The wand is just to thick to pass up through the tight weave of 16 strand.

Typically used rope is hard to splice and I discourage new splicers to try it, especially if it is double braid rope. But with 16 strand, it is usually not too tough at all.

I have 2 coat hanger and 2 others that are made of a stiffer but thinner wire. They both serve different purposes, and both are better than the wand when it comes to 16 strand.

If someone had a photo they could post of a functional coat hanger splicing wand I'd greatly appriciate viewing it. I normally use my samson fids to splice hollow braids and such for friction cords, though I'm new in the game and haven't built up the guff to attempt a 16 strand splice yet,nor do I have the right tool... but if I could make one...
Thanks.

Here's the one I use, my brother made it out of piano wire. There's a thicker wire and a thin one depending on what kind of rope is being worked.

I also have a longer one I use for 16 strand, same principle.

I use piano wire too, somewhere in the neighborhood of .050".

This is the picture I think you're talking about...

It came from a post by Rich H in this thread.

it works like a snare, just trap a little bit of rope in the end of the loop. when you pull it through, the cover of the rope keeps the end tight on the snare..
