CMI Holdway

It's mid line attachable, if I remember correctly, and its a way for the climber to add friction control. Rather it be solo rigging or taking over the load for a single groundie, Of course it's not made for extreme stuff but handles decent weights.
Not quite mid line attachable in a functional way like a rockextocia pulley.. More so than a rigging ring, less so than a block (three slick pins).. Look at the scarab for light rigging mid line attachable.

Curious too. Midline attachable sounds nice but it won’t be as sleek as a ring. I got one of the 20k lb pulleys which are great for winching redirects and if we aren’t stoked on the Holdway the slick pin shackle will definitely get used. Those shackles are the business.
It's still pretty slick, light, midline attachable, I think I'm going to sew a leather guard on my slings to use with it with the heavy-ish leather I use for knife sheaths, should disburse the pressure a bit and keep friction on it to a minimum

Its a canopy friction device.
Like a porty.
It's not much friction, significantly less than you can get even with doing less of a wrap than you're supposed to with a medium porta wrap from what I could tell, more than a block and will up what you can rig down without a porta wrap or similar device but it's not like you're going to be comfortable lowering a 150-200 lb branch with it and nothing else.

you won't get more friction than with a ring, look up the euler-eytelwein-equation.
whenever you need friction up top and midline attachability is important, just turn around your block, better bend-radius for your sling aswell.

I had a friend who installed a block upside down one time by accident, it was the screw lock type. It came undone with a big piece of wood in the rigging, almost killed him. But yeah long as it's not a screw lock block, that's a great trick to get friction up top.....

The included Slic Pin Shackle alone is also sold separately at other vendors, I think for over 40$. Looks useful, like a Quickie but for rigging loads.

That slic pin shackle works well on crane jobs. I've got 3 of them, but only use them on crane days.

I've never tried them on a traditional rig.

yes, very important point. i should've clarified that, it wasnt on my mind as i only own the isc blocks..

I got to play with my holdway devices last week used them for rigging down lots if of limbs that the groundie probably would've wanted a friction device for had we been using a block, when we did the wood we used the holdway and ftc micro cylinder together for some good sized chunk probably 300-400 lbs at the largest definitely gave me a smoother ride than a pulley would've even when the had to stop them it was a much more mellow smooth experience for me. The impact felt very mellowand less sharp than I'm used to.
