Look up the good folks at Pacific Tree Climbing Institute (PTCI.)They're all set up with gear, permits and insurance.
North coast earth first totally free and they provide training... ok I know guys this rubs you the wrong way but its just a suggestion

your choice treeguy but , I think there are pleanty of other folks out there much more qualified to climb large redwoods then earthfirst folks ....Just my opinion though ...

and no, earth firsters arent arborists i just see them up in big trees witth lots of new donated gear and all the latest gizmos at their fingertips..im poor at the moment and cant buy all that stuff. there are only a few id climb with
