climbers without gaffs?

Recently I found this picture. Arborist has climbers with no spurs, just something looking like crampons for ice climbing. Limbwalk with gaffs is kind of a pain, idea of using something like this make sense. I wonder if someone could tell me more about this type of "spikes"?crampons.webp

I thought the gaff is hiding behind the rope on right foot , left foot angle not showing it . Kinda hard to say . Looks like crampon style spike on bottom of shank under foot ..lots of additions customized climber type attachments coming out these days! I personally may choose to do spurless removal on a tree of that form and species .. Gimme my evos

You're probably right, I was under impression that part of the gaff should be visible on his left foot even on that angle. Those crampons are interesting

U can buy those and attatch it underneath your gaffs like that for added grip. It was posted on another forum but if I can find it I'll post a link

Those are very popular in France; check out Hevea if you want to purchase some. The crampon part on the bottom of the shank is removable, I believe. Other than that they are standard climbers, and they definitely have gaffs.

Thank you, Hevea is quite interesting (even for a guy like me who doesn't do french). I'm not new to treework ( started 1987) and I like my old tricks, they work for me. It's good to know however what's going on in this ever changing world of arboriculture. And even better it's good to know that there are professionals who are willing to share info. Thanks again.

You said they didn't have spurs-they have spurs-on the inside where you can't see them.
how do you know that if you can't see them either? If it is you on the picture you are just mean, if it's not you...well, I'm too old for some pissing contest. Tomorrow is another working day (at least for me).
