Climber falls out of sycamore tree in NY - anything helps

A friend of mine who works about an hour south of me, fell out of a sycamore tree on his initial ascent. He told me his was on a base tie on a well suitable limb and it straight sheared off, which sounds crazy to me. Didn't get a picture of the limb but he told me there was a full knuckle on the end of the limb, ripped right out of the trunk.

Anyways I told him he should set up a fundraising thingy to help him during recover, which he did, and that I'd share. Broken tailbone and compressed spine. The man is pretty down on his luck.

If anyone has the ability and/or desire to help out financially, here is the link. Climb safe brothers and sisters. Much Love

I noticed the sycamore in my area (finger lakes) struggled super hard early summer. Most look like they recovered but I wonder if it is something related.

What was the size of the branch he was tied in to? How high was he on his ascent?

Best of luck to him and a smooth recovery.

I saw the same and was concerned. Whole river bank of the hudson river had bare sycamore trees. Later talked to a PHC friend and he said an early frost rocked them. They recovered nicely from what I've seen.

When appropriate with sensitivity bring up the practice of redundancy and catch unions i.e. non-isolated line. Best wishes for recovery.
