Chipper issue

I have a serious issue with my 2011 morbark 12" chipper. It has 1000 hours on it and rarely does it see anything over 6-8". The metal on the chipper where the lower feed wheel is connected is cracking badly. I'm curious if anyone else has seen this before? I have a call into the dealer where I bought machine (bought new) but thought I would get some opinions here as well.

WOW is right. I have a brand new 12" in my driveway that I'm demoing this weekend. I might just send it back and say no thank you!!!! That looks like vibration stress (to me atleast), which would be consistent with the ungodly vibration when chipping big wood.
Please keep us posted on how you have it fixed and how much it costs. And if Morbark comes back with why it broke.
Good luck

I called service dept. yesterday and explained situation and he said right away it sounded like bad metal. He told me to email service manager with pics. I did that and did not get a response that day. Called him this morning and left voice mail and did not hear back today!
I don't want to use chipper due to safety concerns and I don't just have a back up chipper sitting around. Monday I will call again and make sure I speak to someone!
My big issue is what to ask for or hope for? I know the machine is out of warranty but this seems like something they should work with me on.

Bad metal? I guess they can say that now that it's out of warranty and don't have to worry about it. I hope they stand behind there machine. I know my dealer (of course they are trying to make the sale) said if my machine goes in the shop I leave with a loaner. Maybe they will stand tall.

You should ask for what you want. (Which I would roughly assume is a chipper that works and is in safe working condition.) But, you should ask someone who can give you what you want and someone who is motivated to do so. That is not a dealer, it is corparate.

One member here was getting zero with his local Morbark dealer and finally contacted Morbark Corporate about some warrantee issues. They directed him to another dealer and made sure he was taken care of in that matter.

The point that should matter to Morbark is not warrantee/out of warrantee, it is how beautifully clear are your pictures and how well you convey to the other members of this forum and elsewhere that this is ONLY a five year old chipper and it ONLY has 1000 lighter hours put on it. They should know that you will make sure that people are clear about how well Morbark stands behind their products. Also, already people about to buy a Morbark are reconsidering their decision.

Look up the broken feed wheel thread on Morbarks. How much do they want this to grow and burgeon in the mind of readers hear and those that will google info on Morbark problems in the future as they prepare to buy their next chipper?

First update......
Heard back today for first time from service manager (I first contacted him Thursday) he stated he saw the pictures I sent him and said that Morbark has made a plate that's fits the area to fix the problem, and prevent it from happening again. So I asked if Morbark would back up any of the cost for repair since they realized it was a problem? He stated the machine was well out of warranty and the best he could do was submit a form to Morbark and see what they say. I'm bringing in chipper in the morning and if they have a machine available they will let me use while repairs are being made. We will see........

No news from Morbark yet. The dealer said he was going to submit some paperwork. I did get a loaner from the dealer finally so at least I'm working at the moment!

final update.

I went and picked up the chipper on Monday afternoon. Morbark agreed to cover half of the labor cost and all of the parts. I would of preferred if they picked up all the labor but I'll take it. The dealer is Alexander equipment. Although I was worried after the first couple of days of conversation they did provide me a very nice (bigger than my machine) loaner so I could keep working at no charge. I was also very pleased with the repair work! The work looked excellent and they even did some extra work at no charge.

Long story short, hats off to Alexander equipment for the quality of work performed and almost very good customer service.
and thanks to Morbark for at least picking up some of the repair cost.

Good to hear that they picked up a majority of the bill and you got a loaner at no additional cost. Could have been better but easily could have been much worse! Hope the labor bill wasn't to awefull. Thanks for the update.
