Chaps and heat

Even though it's cooling off I've had something on my mind about chaps and heat. I for one have not had a problem wearing chaps in the heat of the texas summer however I have heard others who I concider to be on top things with safety express concerns over chaps contributing to heat related illness or injury in summer months. what do people think about that? Yes I am aware of the light weight stuff.

I can definately see there being an issue with heat related illness. I guess if the person gets to that point or feels like they are, the best thing would just be to put the saw down, take off the chaps and find some shade. There are also some products out there that you can wear that have ice packs built in, but I have only seen them for upper body. Maybe there's a million dollar idea, ice pack holders on the inside of the chap legs?

Maybe if you got those new fancy shoes your buddy Don is puting out your guys wouldnt overheat. Seriously Though.
My Americorps saw crews are required to take a 10 minute break every hour when they are running saws and all geared up in the summer. Plenty of water helps also. We were having a similar issue with folks falling out this summer until we made the breaks mandatory. It sure was a beotch of a season, glad its finally over.
