Hi All,
Looking at buying a pair of chainsaw pants. I already have the SIP 5.1. Looking to buy another pair and looking for advice. I like the SIP's but was thinking the the Stihl HiFlex or the new Husqvarna pants. The pfanner is a little out of my price range but I know they are great pants. Does anyone have experience with either of these two pants. What are the disadvantages/advantatages, especially in the summer when the heat is an issue. Thanks for the replies.
 
I have a both the SIP 5.1 and the Stihl HiFlex and really can't compain about either of them. The Stihl's are a little warmer b/c they have the Type C protection, basically full leg, not just the front. I like the fit of the Stihl's better, less baggy. As for wearing them in the heat I've worn both pairs in heat up to 90F with high humidity and its hot but bearable. They are fine at temps below 80F. This being said if i was going to buy another pair I would go with the stihls. One more thing to mention. I had a friend that was over in England for a study abroad course last summer pick them up. Other then knowing someone over the pond or going yourself, good lucking trying to get a pair shipped.
 
i have a pair of the husky.....i would go with them over the stihl hiflex...i've yet to see someone be able to wear a pair of the stihls without looking gay!
the husky have zips down the backs of the legs that really let in the air in the summer.
if you were nearer id sell you mine, only worn them 3 times, always opt for the stretch airs!
 
The stihls seem to lack any durability compared to the strech airs or the sips. I own a pair of each and the stihls never leave the house now.
 
I have Stihl hiflex, they are holding up fine, I got mine while in the UK.
Bermuda is part of the US market so I emailed Stihl USA to enquire why they were not available in the US market and got a reply spouting things about testing agencies and standards... phooey, you telling me CE/EN european standard are not good enough for the US? Baloney.
I also had my local Husky dealer try and get a price for the new husky pants with the zips, same deal, not available in the US market. SO with the exchange rate be prepared to pay over $200 for a pair of either! There are plenty of online arb stores in the UK that will send stuff. Honey Brothers, Charterhouse...

As for heat, boy I don't know how you manage to survive in Stihl hiflex in 90 degrees PurdueJoe! Mine go into storage until the temp drops to 80. Nice on a chilly day though.
 
Chainsaw pants.......hmmmm, I think I must have 3 pairs of ARC/FR rated cotton summer pants, 3 pair of winter wool pants, 2 pair nylon, and 1 cotton summer pants (its good to have a company buy them for you). I've seen enough pairs hit by chainsaws to know wearing them will save your body parts and time in the ER.
A sound investment for the money.
 
I bought my Hi flex pants on Ebay about a year ago. I have been wearing them ever sence, and i love them. I also have sip 5.1 and i love them too..... the Sips are more comfortable during the summer but the Hi flex have more Protection. Either way, i dont leave home without having one of them on.

I said bearable not comfortable. Plus, I was working a side job for a buddy so I firgured I'd rather be hot then get my leg cut and have to explain it to the bossman.
 
alright, so sounds like the "stretch airs" are the ones to get so far... Now, clarify something please. Are these made by Husky? or is the brand called Stretch Air?

Thinking of buying some for a climber of mine.

All of these pants have to be bought from arborist supply companies overseas?

Stihl have just released another new pair of schoeler stretch material saw pants on the european market they are worth a look if you dont fancy getting roasted in type c's (hi flex all round protection) as these are only type a's front protection and dont look as steve put it so gay.
pfanner have suposidly sorted out there stiching probs i did have 2 pairs of the klima airs and i have to say they where the best climbing saw trousers ive ever had but the stiching kept coming undone so i got a free upgrade to there extreme protection wich are thorn proof and a lot stronger but not as free moving.
Any way the hi flex are still a very good pair of trousers compared to how saw trousers used to be. web page
 
Speaking of Type C or A what do most of you guys have. I know here in the U.S. we only need Type A and thats only on the ground.
 
I feel that the SIPs can be a bit baggy. How was the Hi-Flex in relation to fit, especially with the all around protection? One thing about the Husqvarna Pro Tech 20 trousersis that they are 4 layers, may be nice and light for the summer months? What do you all think? IMO, I don't think the Hi-Flex look all that bad...why do they seem "gay"?

Thats what I think about the SIP's. The HiFlex's do fit alot tighter but I like them better then the SIP's because they dont seem to shift and bunch up as much.
