Chainsaw-hooks that "stay in-place"? Loved Edelrid, HATE my Evo...

I've checked photo&video of the Evo today, in-hopes that this week perhaps I'll find it to be more useful than a large wire-gate 'biner which is basically all it is right now, I've tightened it using the top, middle & bottom 'grooves' on its spline and it always flops around, always more comfortable to 2-hand my saw into it, could put my saw in w/ 1 hand EVERY time w/ my edelrid hook (had their Small one too)

Hoping for suggestions, 99% of the time it's just holding my 2511t (oftentimes by the saw's wrap-handle and not actual clips) but sometimes a ~16lbs (fueled&bar'd) unit, will just go back to the trusty Edelrid if all good alternatives are pricey (Edelrid's is like $10-15, I could see paying maybe $30 if we're talking about an awesome metal alloy unit, def no more than $20 if a plastic unit)

Thanks for input!! To be clear I'm referring to a dedicated chainsaw clip, IE not something you're trying to double-up (well I guess I clip my hand-saw into it sometimes :P ), so 'small size' type ;)

I have transporters for other gear but this is what I use for chainsaws. This is a Kong open gate carabiner but the basic concept could work for most biners this shape.

It requires a little patience…

I use the smaller shembiner, never rotates. I "one hand" rack and unrack my saw all the time.

I've only had the saw come off of the hook unintentionally once or twice since owning it. The one time that comes to mind was while being lowered through a canopy by a crane and the saw got hung up on limbs while I was watching other moving parts. Not a big deal if it does come off, as the saw lanyard will catch it.

Advantage of not having a gate means it never clips around brush like a caritool can do.

've foudnthat the transporter and vault both solved the issues of rotating and moving around on the webbing quite effectively with the (for lack of a better description) bolt on plates they come with. Been using them for years and as long as you have a carabiner/saw leash ring it is super easy to one hand rack and unrack.

Yep, love my Transporter. Rock solid even when hanging my 661 with a 36" (which I luckily almost never need up a tree....).

Hmm, I was about to order a Shembiner for hanging the saw on but now I’m wondering if I should be looking at something else. My original intent was to use a Caritool, but now I’m thinking I’d rather have something metal instead of plastic to hang the saw on. I was leaning towards the Shembiner so that I wouldn’t have to work a gate when using the saw

I use the small shembiner, it's awesome works flawlessly, never had my saw come out unintentionally, easy one had access works great to hang ropes on when I'm setting up rigging too, I actually just bought a second to use for holding random stuff. Usually it's just holding my 201tc or msa160t but sometimes it's my 362, I use saw lanyards with the ring on them to go on the shembiner.

I guess I figure if you’re about to use the saw and take it off your clip, you’ll have two hands free. Two hands to deploy, one hand to stash. So I don’t mind a gate.

A caritool will break after not too long.

Keeps you from having to reach across your body or around your back with your other hand which can be kinda awkward.

Yah, I was about to say the same thing. Never used one myself, but they are more intended as accessory gear storage rather than for something heavy like a saw. I've heard of them failing when used to hang saws over a period of time.

Small ones are fragile as can big. Large ones are rock solid... But they move around on your belt, so I'm less of a fan.

The transportor has a flat/tabbed gate that make rolling a biner out one handed easy. True you’ll likely be operating the saw with both hands, but one handed stowing and deploying is pretty great.

I did a little bit of branch trimming the other day and found it a little awkward trying to use both hands to free and sometimes stow the saw. I was just using a cordless sawzall (Milwaukee) and a 9” carbide pruning blade on my saw tether and a Caritool because I don’t have a dedicated saw hanger yet. I want to do a metal hook of some type for the saw before I do any real work or hang the chainsaw and was going to order it with the rope and a couple other things I’ve found I need to make things more comfortable

This. I found it frequently awkward to get both hands there. Even though I was just using a sawzall I still was trying to make a habit of using both hands to operate it, but storing/retrieving it would be easier one handed

Same I feel the vault and transporter solve that problem..I took 1 of my dmm vaults and cut the gate off to turn it into more of a shembinner style. Works good. 1 hand rack and un rack my saw. I'll have to get pictures later

Let's see pics of the hook-point on the saws you are using.

Some people tape-up a carabiner rigidly to the lanyard ring on the saw for one-hand hanging.

Any input for an MCRS saw hanger?
