Chainsaw brochure

I have been asked to put together a brochure to give away with a chainsaw and I would like some ideas. The saws are being raffled off as a fundraiser for Pheasants Forever and they asked me to make some brochures to include with them. They told me that I can include any info that I want.... total freedom. The mentioned possibly safety issues with improper saw usage or proper pruning/felling techniques. I don't really want to talk about "proper pruning with a chainsaw" but I think safety issues would be a good topic. Do any of you have any more insight or maybe even some brochures that you could post for some ideas. Maybe even some nice pics relating to chainsaws. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh yeah, one potential problem: The brochure should only be one page front and back.

something regarding one handed use and maybe receive proper training before operating.I think when you buy a saw in kinda goes over all that stuff in the manual not really sure though ive never actually read one.

I know that its not a brochure, but Stihl has a DVD for about $6 that is good for newbies. Basic use and maintenance.

In the brochure, when in doubt, don't.
Don't use while off the ground, and don't get off the ground without training and proper equipment.

A diagram that has a ladder and chainsaw, and the international circle with slash "Don't" sign.

There's that one classic picture floating around with the guy, chainsaw, and ladder, the one where there are each independently airborne at the same time.

Inform people that there are alot of pro's that will gladly make a huge mess and get paid for not doing the clean-up... I mean, leave the technical work to a pro, and they play with their saw to do all the ground processing after the pro's are done.

Warn against the Village Idiot/ Expert.

Explain that pruning is more than cutting off limbs, and again, hire a pro for the technical stuff, and then they can play with their raffle prize.

Tell them that they can have professional chain sharpening, and that their are hand files and guides. A chain that isn't sharp, is dull. Stop and fix it.

Be sure to read and understand the manual.

yeah, when trying to clean a pheasant, do not use this chainsaw, it makes a mess of the meat, bones and feathers.

Why don't they include the proper PPE with the chainsaw? Can't have one without the other sorta deal.

Emphasize the importance of reading the operating manual. It does a nice job of covering the basics of proper handling and use.

Throw some homeowner accident statistics in there.

I agree with including the PPE i mean is the person that wins the chainsaw actually going to read the brochure? I mean do you really read the instructions when you get a new tv?

Oh and one thing you may want to think about having another language on there....like spanish

even though we do live in America and our language is english

That's why it should be emphasized. I did take the time to read the manual (for a change!) and it is useful for someone who doesn't really know how to do some basic cutting.

1. PPE
2. Leg protection
3. Thumb locking grip
4. Position chain saw to the "right" of the body to avoid contact should rotational kickback occur
5. Heel to toe stance, shoulder width apart
6. No cutting above the shoulders or below the knees
7. Full throttle when beginning to cut
8. No one should be in front of a rotating chain
9. Proper chain tension
10. Keep air filter clean

no cutting below the knees? then why are chaps designed the way they are? I am confused i have never heard this before...

I'd put a note in about the spark arresting screen and how when it gets dirty, it can seem like the air filter is dirty.

Its probably in the manual, but its a sneaky thing when it happens.
