CEU question

I run workshops in Japan, I have a seven day event coming up with a bunch of teachers, three of whom are international and two of which are Certified Arborists by the ISA. It was suggested to me that I contact the Chapter here to see if the individual parts of the event could have CEU's attached. Which I did and was told unequivocally that this was impossible, that only the organisations linked directly to the ISA in Japan could give CEU's. There are two, Japan Arborist Association (JAA) and Arborist Training Institute (ATI). This seems odd to me, positively negative if you follow me.
Any thoughts?

I would contact headquarters and see what they can do for you. Sounds like a good learning or reviewing opportunity.
Thank you though not too sure how to proceed with this now, or if I can find the energy to delve into ISA politics. I'll certainly put some feelers out. Again, thank you.

Typically the Director of the local chapter has as one of their responsibilities the task of approving CEU's I'd suggest sending a letter requesting continuing education units to your local chapters Director with the agenda for your event including speakers, topics, start and finish times, and the timing of breaks and meals send a copy to the ISA International Certification Department. I've got a feeling the dots will get connected.

That’s odd, I called HQ to see what I needed for Ceu’s for a Japanese pruning class I went to. All I needed was to send a copy of the event listing and a note that I attended, this included the hours. Unfortunately I never sent it in as I had more than enough ceus to re cert.

The attendees could definitely do what evo said, but I see no reason you couldn't get sign in sheets and just deal with isa directly. Other that international calls being expensive

That is what I was thinking...how many participants need the CEUs? If it is just a couple, probably not worth the fight - just help them facilitate sending in the post-event request.

Sounds like you asked the wrong person or phrased the question poorly. You can get CEUs for almost anything tree-educational just by applying for post-approval, it's really quite easy. Not sure why you were told no sounds like a money issue, or you just got a bureaucratic reply from someone not willing to go the extra mile for you.

From ISA: (pre-approval)
If you are organizing or instructing an event that you believe may be eligible for CEU credit, you may submit a request to have it pre-approved. To be eligible for CEU credit, an event:

  1. Must directly relate to the field of arboriculture and one of the topics found on the certification exam outline.
  2. Must have an educational focus and a form of measureable learning.
  3. Must be at least 30 minutes in length or have several eligible sessions that add up to at least 30 minutes.
To request pre-approval for a local event, you may submit a pre-approval form and a detailed agenda or outline that shows how the training time will be used to your local ISA chapter office. If your event will be available in more than one chapter or will be an online course, you may submit your request to ISA Headquarters for processing.
