Are the certifications different to operate a stick crane versus a knuckle boom? Looking into purchasing a crane in the next year or so and wondering what classes/ corses I'll have to complete in order to legally operate my crane or knuckle boom for my tree service. I live in Pennsylvania. I appreciate any input or advice.

Definitely speaking from my experience and on the state level…yes, different types of cranes require different licensure and there are specific tests for each classification. K-Booms and Boom Trucks/Truck Mounted Cranes require individual testing.
