Catchin tops on the Omni block

Finally got Rock Exoticas Omni Block and was very impressed. In the past I would leave a pigs ear when catching tops because my impact blocks at the time would have been over kill for a 10 to 12 foot top (maning I didnt want to pull the heavy sob up to the top lol) the leave a nub and catch the top method worked fine but I would have to quickly make sure the rope was where it was supposed to be after making the back cut. The omni hangs on my belt now when climbing light enough not to be noticed and it took all the chance out of catching my tops.

More so than all of that is the easy open and close action on it, had me smiling ear to ear up in that tree I felt like a kid in a candy store...

Its the little things in life that make me happy...

Start your removal with the right gear i.e. you should be removing the rest of the tree on a block so why would you have to pull it all the to the top just for the top?

Good ? That is normally the case but on a fairly straight up and down Fir Cedar etc. I'm hand tossing or Zip lining limbs there is a small pocket to drop my rounds but not enough room to blow the top all I have to do is catch the top. I guess I should have elaborated more on the situation I was using it

Yeah, I find its fairly common for me to be able to hand toss or speedline the limbs and only need a block on 10 or so feet of top. That Omni Block looks sweet. Glad to hear it works well for blowing out small tops. What are the cheek plates like? Thats my only problem with blowing out small tops on my Pinto Rig, it has absolutely no cheek plates for rope protection.

The cheek plates are wider an it is set up more like a block than the Pinto Rig. The Pinto worked ok but I felt (and this is only my opinion) the Pinto was more on the lines of a traditional pulley in the way it was built and the feel of it. I PM you and got a bit more in depth on this

As far a rubbing on the side plates, consider it's on a swivel. It'll turn to align itself with the rope rather than put friction on the side plates.
