Cambium Protection…

Good morning, all.

So I am a recreational climber. When I first started, I was using a 1/2 conduit friction saver. They work terrific, but now I’m climbing with a sewn eye on each end of my rope, so the conduit won’t work for me. I could get a 3/4”, but before I do, any recommendation on a different product…perhaps more versatile…that I should try?

I was also using a Multi-Sling (carry on my saddle), but the sewn eye doesn’t like passing through the small ring (especially from a distance).

Thank you.

Richard Mumford sold something he called MARCS at ClimbingInnnovations.com - that, or I got busy in the Cave of Wonders with a speedy stitcher and some velcro one cold, cold winter day, split a one piece Weaver leather cambium saver along the sewn seam and with velcro strips, made it "openable" so you can put it on midline and then seal it up (although mine is kinda hard to get apart so maybe overdid it on the velcro bits).
I really like the leather cambium savers with my ZigZag/ double rope - takes a bunch of friction off the metal ziggy parts and makes the thing work like butter - way smoother than I get with pinto pulleys or even double ring friction savers. Cheers

I've used the horse collar style cambium saver. I since switched to an adjustable ring and ring friction saver. Easy to install from the ground, safe, and effective.

The leather one is retrievable with an overhand knot, the adjustable with a small carabiner.
