Bulldog OAR

Awesome guys, thanks for the quick and informative replies. Tried lots of different lanyard combos, favorite right now is a Zillon on Tri-Tech. Super smooth, compact and is rated for life support on SRS. The problem is it tends to bind heavily that way, doubled around a spar or over a union it’s sweet, but singled out it tends to lock. Like loading a traditional English prussik. You can break it, but takes a fair amount of effort. Tried several ropes, basically all the same result. The manuals says to two-hand control feed in that configuration, and that helps, but not really productive, takes too long to free up that second hand 100 times a day. Looks like this is a vast improvement on those shortcomings, as well as additional features like MRS.

I would agree, it’s nearly impossible to find one device that’s works well in every situation, but it looks like @surveyor is indeed on track to create that elusive unicorn.
He’s getting very close. :)

Sorry I don't remember the manufacture (tuefelberger ?). 8mm

Here is Pauls 3 hr video where I got the idea for twin ropes. I think he mentions the rope in his video, but I don't have a spare 3 hrs. right now : )

Edit: I think it is Eldrid

Been using mine a bunch and am having a time with it. What was your ideal set up @Muggs? I can't find it or maybe overlooked it. I'm using Tri-tech and sometimes it doesn't want to release under a lot of tension and taking up tension is a bit tough also. Pointers? I know you are the subject matter expert on this.

I am currently revisiting the Diggity OAR in this thread, at the request of a Japanese climber who uses one, He requested that I skinny up the elongated bollard, so I currently have on order a skinnier and shorter elongated bollard that can replace the original one. Results are improved with Tachyon, with the bollard I modified myself to the desired size. Should have the new bollard in a week or two.

Hi Steve, I always defer to Gordon's expertise for all things BDB. What bone do you have, adjustable or elongated? I've had best results with smaller lines, especially Rebel, KMIII, and Squir, but also had good experiences with Yale 11.7 and Hyperclimb. Squir is my go-to with the bone, it's a really nice in-between size, stays firm and round under load. I find, similar to the Hitchhiker, there's a learning curve to any device that doesn't incorporate a pulley for tending. Also, similar to the original Runner but not as pronounced, there's a break-in period to get a bit of a groove worn into the bollard.

edit: sorry, thought you were asking about the bone, not the oar.

no I was asking about the lanyard adjuster.

Does this “break” harder like the OG runners? Where there’s the initial tension and then it opens up or can this be finessed smoother like the zigzag?

I just tried it, and I would say they are similar DRT. You can release both smoothly, it is just a matter of knowing how they react to pressure on the lever. Whereas the ZZ has about a 1 inch long lever to initiate release, the BDO has a 3 inch lever action on the top arm. Also, both devices have the rope running near the pivot point on the release levers. SRT with the BDO is just as you see in the video.

Awesome thank you for the info!
