Brake on Stihl 361

Question......my brother, when done cutting a log, engages the safety brake while the chain is still running at full speed. Is this harmful to the saw? To me, it seems the same as slamming the brakes on in your car, as opposed to coasting to a stop. Any info would help settle our feud. Thank

Its not the best thing for the clutch/brake unit. But it isnt detramental to the saw. It will definately speed up the wearing out of those parts.

I have seen 372's with the crank broke at the clutch from the chain brake put on at full throttle limbing trees so I would stay away from that
